The rough rule of thumb is for 5 hp per foot of width of the cutter. You would be a bit marginal at 6 feet resulting in lower ground speeds to accommodate the, perhaps, lack of adequate power in tough cutting.

I've been shopping around. A lot. I've decided specifically on a Land Pride 5' rotary because the blade tip speed is quite a bit faster than anything else I compared it to in 5'.
I've missed out on several auctions for a 2060 cutter in the 600-700 range that were on an auction time website but got outbid by 100 every time... So... I found a local guy with an RCR1260. It's a lighter duty unit but at least a good maker. He want's 500 for it and it has about a dozen hours on it. Seems like a pretty solid deal given there's nothing within 150 miles of me that is reasonably priced.
The knuckleheads on craigslist are all asking retail new prices for old, beat up equipment. I wanted a medium duty but I'm too cheap to spend over a grand on a rotary at this point in my learn-to-be-a-farmer adventure. One day I'll get a big arse tractor and get a monster cutter. Today is not that day. I'm assuming with a faster blade tip speed I'm going to get a bit better "mulching" so hopefully that's the case. With the lighter duty cutter, I'm going to have to be careful to avoid anything more than twigs, though, and I'll carry a small suitcase full of shear pins. I'm going to try to get it picked up next week and start cutting back some of the overgrowth around my property.

If you drive slow, you will probably be surprised at the size brush you can cut. Good Luck !! Ken Sweet
