As a heart attack! Used the outdoor shower extensively. Conveniently located near the hot tub. Quite refreshing!

My cousins had an outdoor shower at their camp. But to get hot water they had a long garden hose stretched out in the sun. The first person to shower might get burned, while the last one might freeze.

I picked five gallons of peas off 4 rows this afternoon before work. That is only half the patch, but I spent too much time at my camp, so I'll have to finish up in the morning. They are really dry, so I'll put the sprinkler on them as soon as I finish picking.

Second corn crop picked and as expected was not great. I did harvest 58 small to medium ears which I sure just may keep us out of the poor house. I picked another head of cabbage that is small but sure to eat good, I'm paraphrasing but the good book says "blessed is the man who tries" thank you for another day.image.jpg

About the middle of September I bush hogged and broke under what was left of the garden.
Last week I noticed greenery.

I have peas growing where the peas were.

And corn where the corn was. However, I don't think I'll get anything off of them.

It'll get plowed under in the spring.

I picked the rest of the peas on Wednesday. Got another five gallons. We put up several quarts, and saved out a few to cook this weekend. Also on Wednesday, I saw the first blooms on the young peas. I'm pretty sure they are not going to make before frost, but I learned how late is too late. Next year I will stagger the late peas two weeks instead of three. They were much slower to bloom than earlier in the year.

I planted 50 collard seeds. 25 in rockwool and 25 in soil. Right now the soil is winning. Also did a bunch of broccoli. My first time with it, so I will be learning as I go.

Jalapenos ready on my outside to inside plants.

There are little peppers on the California Wonder Bells, but the same age plants in the swimming pool have peppers almost ready to pick.

Those Jalapeños are looking good, Larro!

Those are off of a couple of plants that I brought inside when I got the lights set up. I was going through and dumping all the plants still in Solo cups that hadn't got used in the garden, and I couldn't stand to trash them all. Also did a cherry tomato that way. I transplanted it into Darro Dirt {my mushroom mulch mix} and put it under the lights. But it got too tall and lanky, so I put it back outside. Now it's loaded with tomatoes.

Yeah we are finding our tomatoes grown in barrels seem to get way more 'leggy' than if planted in the ground directly.

I put 8 quarts and a pint of peas in the freezer tonight. Inside peppers. Outside peppers. The first Pruden's Purple to start turning.

There are little peas in my youngest patch now. We are already two days past average first frost, so we will just have to wait and see. So far we have only had one night in the 40's. The outside/inside/outside cherry tomato is cranking out the fruit. I eat several of them in the garden every morning.

Deer got in the garden last night. They seemed to like the Jalapeno peppers. The small gates were all left open, as they have been all year. I just hope they won't be jumping the fence to get back in.

I transplanted the collards into cups this morning. These are the ones I sprouted in soil. I also put the ones in rockwool in cups, but they are still under the lights.

I set out three rows of broccoli plants adding just a touch of Darro Dirt. This is my first try growing broccoli, so I will be learning as I go.

The spinach is coming up, but the picture didn't look very good.

I picked the first bell pepper from the swimming pool this morning, and the first Pruden's Purple tomato yesterday.

The drain holes on my pool were clogged, so my tomatoes were swimming this morning, I moved them over to the trench I had dug. I'm going to widen the trench {and make it longer} so I can put down peppers in front. I have many more pepper plants than I do space to put them, so only the nicest ones will be saved.

Today's picking of the peas might be the last for this planting. The vines are all drying up. The young peas are 4 or 5 days from the first picking. My 10 day forecast doesn't call for anything below the high 50's, so I should get at least a couple of pickings off them.

Hi Larro,

My wife would probably kill me if she knew I was posting this but I just can't resist. I titled it, "Beet Farmer" but I am sure there are better captions.

Given where she is standing, I am not going to ask what kind of fertilizer was used.
