I think the driver who dropped the San Francisco pedestrian overcrossing said he shifted his PTO into gear by mistake (while moving at freeway speed). The location is climbing a hill between South San Francisco into SF proper so its reasonable that he had to shift down at that point. So that explanation is believable. It was extreme good luck that no one got hurt, normally there's 8 lanes of continual traffic 24/7 between SF and its international airport just south of there.

I was wondering why that resulted in an arrest instead of a citation, so I pulled out the URL and found this:

"Furman was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, deputies said."

That sounds about right.

I was in a long line of cars coming home on a hot summer evening when some fool passed all of us at high speed terrifying the oncoming traffic on the two lane highway. We heard him coming because he was missing a tire on one front wheel, in fact the wheel was ground down flat on the bottom side. Lots of noise, sparks, engine roar, idiocy.

Followed by CHP a couple of minutes behind him.

I was passed by a dumb *** on a motorcycle in medium traffic. I bet the guy was going at least 140 mph. Then a few minutes later several of his buddies who had less to drink that day passed going about 95.

Was tooling down Rte 5 in CT one afternoon and was passed by a motorcycle doing somewhere between 90 and 100. Doing a wheelie. The operator had on jeans. No helmet, gloves, leathers, shirt, boots, socks, or footwear of any kind.
