Okay let's try this again... not much progress in the last few days as I have been traveling but I do have the basic patio laid now and am now thinking of some kind of pergola. I'm not one to have the whole plan in place before I start. Often results in some hard thinking along the way and how to make it work without starting over though. Here is where I am at...

It's looking good!!

It's a shame that the view off your deck is so horrible though. I'm bummed for ya!

Yeah it's tough... I probably shouldn't share a few more but can't resist.

You might catch why we moved out a bit from the city... and why the patio/fire pit build.

I have decided to report you to Mohamed for posting such obscene photos. You are very lucky. View I wanted my wallet would not allow.

I would be afraid that the pavers near the downhill side would eventually start drifting/slanting down the slope. Do you plan to have a curb or retaining wall on that side? It would provide a clean edge too.

Try to stop gazing at the Sound so you can concentrate on the pavers.

Is that green house in the background a kit? Looks nice.

From looking at a map, that would be Hood Canal, and maybe even looking into Dabob Bay a bit? Oyster country.

You nailed it! View to west and north. The nuke subs do their sea trials out front our place. We shrimp, crab, and chase after oysters on 150ft of beach we share with a couple other lots!

Yes exactly. I'm planning to build a retaining wall along that edge and actually I'm getting ahead of myself. Waiting to finish the edge then. I may have said at the start, this was supposed to be a simple drop in of a free standing and a couple chairs! It's never that quick and easy for me.

Ha ha sorry. We looked long and hard for west facing waterfront and couldn't afford anything less than two hours from Seattle, not to mention the property taxes! This isn't on the beach but just above. The original large old waterfront 'estate' was busted up into three additional 1.5 acre lots to hand down to family. Each having unlimited access and sharing the beach and dock. Best part is the view is actually better where we are situated and we don't have the inflated property taxes. All family has sold and I have incredible retired neighbors! Can't see me living anywhere else now.

A little progress today. Would have built more of the sitting wall but ran out of various block. I have to admit that after building a couple large walls with 80+ lb block, working with these smaller blocks is actually fun!

Okay pretty much finished the little retaining wall and moved in the fire pit. Wasn't sure my little BX was going to be able to lift it but really no problem. I think it weighs about 450lb not really sure. But this is a perfect example of why the BX is awesome. I could not have done this job with a bigger tractor. Even had to hold my stabilizer foot to get past the corner of the greenhouse.

Thanks guys! Very happy with the space so far. But I really need to secure the unfinished borders. The joints nearby are loosening up a bit.

What is your plan for that edge of the pavers? They make paver edging that bolsters up against the edge and gets spiked into the
ground.. or you could build a small wall to shore it up...
