What sort of idiot trusts a coin more than experienced weather forecasters ? Oh, that would be me, back inside drinking coffee and watching the rain run down the window. I could see it coming over the Welsh mountains, 3 hours earlier than even the forecasters predicted and is probably washing the herbicide off before it can take effect. :( So pleased it was the coin that decided things and not me, or I would be feeling pretty mad at myself by now. ;)

What type of chemical were you using for the wiping? How long was it on before rain? What does the label say is it's rainfast?

All of these matter. But if it's a paraquat or glyphosate, most likely if it drys it'll work.

72F @ 5:30AM. Partly cloudy. High 96F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

+1 for new hacksaw blades, Eric. Especially good ones from Disston, Lenox, or Starrett. They'll last a LOT longer than the cheap ones from China, very satisfying to this Scot! If you wiped with glyphosate (hmmm, that didn't come out right!) it only needed two hours before getting wet to be effective.

Dave, as a kid it usually took two nurses and my mom to hold me down for a penicillin shot through one of those needles. The whole office could hear me yell! My last car had heated seats and steering wheel, was kept in a garage, and even here in California I enjoyed the warmth on brisk days. How quickly we get soft!

Congrats on the payoff, Buckeye. Every little bit helps, huh?

Don, glad the mustang bread tasted OK. Around here any recipe I can walk away from is a good one.

Got the rear master cylinder off the bike yesterday, but couldn't polish out the corrosion in the bore. New one on order, along with a few other parts that needed replacing. Took the stands off, blasted and repainted them, but used a brush. It was too hot by then and the paint didn't flow, so this morning I'll blast 'em again and get the spray rig goin'. No sense doin' something if you're not gonna do it right.

Monsoonal moisture streaming in from the Pacific caused dry lightning in the mountains north of here, setting many new wildfires. Those conditions prevail all weekend, so I'll be keeping my nose in the wind. I'm not in the Red Flag Zone (yet), but all it takes is one idiot with a cigarette or lawn mower to set one off.

CAL FIRE - News Releases

Outside the bedroom sliding door more than a half dozen hummers are vying for a taste of sugar from the feeder. It's almost empty while two others are almost untouched, yet all hold the same nectar. I think they like socializing around the ol' watering hole, but all the squawking and aerobatics lend a combative air to the affair...

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

An article about Perdue chickens and using minimal antibiotics. The slide show is a neat peek into how chicks are hatched and treated before being sent to farms like Farmer2009's.

It's hard to grasp that just one hatchery receives 1.5 million eggs per week for incubation. With a 21 day incubation period that means they have 4.5 million eggs incubating.

0th cup of coffee, but that is normal for me. Hot today but less humid.

Probably will do the Win10 upgrade today.

I have always been a Dave Ramsey sort of person, even before I ever heard of him. I'll feel even better when the HELOC is paid off, it;'s got a pole barn and a few other things on it. I'd pay it off aggressively if it wasn't for college tuition. My son does go to a reasonable priced (by todays standards) college in Arkansas. So farmer2009, I'll be heading down past you in a few weeks to drop him off. He's studying computer engineering, and I don't qualify for any help in paying the bills. I'd like to get him and my other one thru college without massive loans. You do get penalized for saving for college, it's best to go in with massive debt, but I can't live like that.

Congrats Dave on the new vehicle. I have 2 vehicles paid for and under half to go on the 3rd. Unfortunately I will need another probably within the year. I'm looking for one of those bargain low mileage slightly used vehicles, I never seem to find them. Have 290K on my work vehicle. I just replaced 2 catalytic converters to get it past emissions testing, so that's good for 2 more years. It needs new front tires. Overall it's in pretty good shape for the mileage. One concern is the transmission, the light was blinking some last summer, was a little low in fluid. Has been fine ever since.

Well, better get something done today.

Good Morning. 0900, mostly cloudy, 77F with 96% humidity. high of 88F with 60% chance of thunderstorms today, and a low of 73F tonight. The cold front came through here too. Highs in the 80's and lows in the low 70's is about as good as it gets around here this time of year. We had a little shower last night as I was getting off work {2230}. Looks like a laid back day at work. The late night party hasn't paid their deposit, so maybe I'll get off earlier tonight. If they do come in and pay, it will be about 0100.
You guys have a good one,

Larro

Here is a pic of the native wild mustang grapes on the side of my drive this year.

Don, over here we call those wild tag grapes Fox Grapes. I knew a fellow that used to make wine out of them, then turn it into brandy. It was very drinkable.

Clopyralid + triclopyr. They say rain safe after 2 hours. I had been going only an hour when I saw it coming and it was on me within 10 minutes. If it doesn't kill the weeds, it may be enough to give them a good headache.

I won't trust a throw of that coin again - unless I make it the best of 3. :)

Education is getting expensive in the UK too. When I did an engineering degree back in the '70s, there were no course fees for anyone. Nowadays everyone has to pay a fee, typically around 9,000 pounds ($13,500) per year, plus the usual accommodation and living expenses. The government arranges for a loan to cover the course fee, with the loan being paid back once in work.

Not sure which is fairer to society overall, however the ready availability of loans has resulted in many now going to university when in previous generations they would have gone straight into a paid job. Unfortunately some of these courses are of no value to employers, so people are getting into long term debt without the prospect of their degree getting them a better paid job to help them pay the loan back.

Yes all the college loan and grant programs have been sucked up by the college bureaucracy with inflated cost,s such as college presidents getting paid $500,000 per year leaving the students and their parents if anything worse off then they were when there was little if any aid.

70°F and .01 inches rain since midnight.

Finally got mowing caught up, can begin again in a few days :)

Small neighborhood elaboration this afternoon, two of the kids graduated and off to college. Time flies, they were just elementary students when we met. Both really good kids, smart, apply themselves. I know the parents are proud - deservedly so.

Be safe.
Have a great day

When I get a stiff back, I switch the heated seat on and drive around for half an hour. Just have to be careful I don't start smiling too much as the seat warms up, or it gets a little disconcerting to other drivers.

Never would thought we'd use the heated seats in our Sequoia here in Hawaii, but we do, like Eric. Awesome when you have a few aches. We don't make a special trip, but that trip to town after a hard day is so therapeutic :)
