Oh man I know that the lumber hardware store owners buys me an ice cream every afternoon at 2pm and sometimes breakfast at the lunch counter if I am early enough but geeze these driver bits I bought today where just total crap...I really couldn't believe it... all I was doing was driving standard sheetrock screws 2 1/2 and 3 inch into dimensional SPF framing lumber all 2X4 material forming up a counter for the new store and work bench for the barn.

Seems they carry 2 types in loose bulk. The ones I have been using look really similar to Milwaukee shockwave bits with the relieved shank portion @1.50 for a 2" bit. The others were full shank all the way thru @.99 ea. BUT it was the tips I shattered with just my little bitty Milwaukee 2462 impact driver

I'm going back tomorrow and asking for double on the replacement :D

I have just seen a new review on second generation Shockwave bits...Second Gen Milwaukee Shockwave Bits and Accessories

I totally hated the first ones. Bought a $20.00 kit and had nothing good to say. Never broke one but cammed out the tips too easily especially PH2

The R2 square drive weren't much better either.

Anybody have better luck? :confused2:

I'm not a fan of DeWalt and have been burned by them over and over again, but they are everywhere and sometimes it's the only choice available. So when I needed some new star drive bits, I tried their newest version with the little yellow stripe on it and I've been impressed. I've gone through a few cases of 3 inch nails without any problems. I've also bought their phillips head drivers and found them to hold the edge of a screw very well. Others brands seem to round off and you start stripping phillips heads, but these seem to be hard enough that they haven't rounded out at all.

It's very rare for my to recommend anything DeWalt, but in this case, I'm a fan.

I have never tried those, but I did discover a really good Philips bit at a WhiteCap
years ago, called a "P2R". It is designed to drive P2 (PH2) philips screws, but the
head is reduced, so it stays in the head better. They are short, only about an inch long total,
but work very well. I have never seen them anywhere else.

I just finished a small project, about fifty 1 1/4 Phillips screws with one of those bits in an impact driver. Not one strip or cam-out. It sure surprised me

Shorter the screw the easier it is to drive home I would think.

Last year I used all green coated square drive screws up to 3 1/2" on my projects with a lot less issues than just plain drywall...but thought I save my boss a little money on screws being its all indoors anyhow. Probably not now buying all the xtra bits :D

Now I'm wondering how different using my 18v 2657 2 speed driver would make it...better or worse :confused3:
