foaming oil

I use a speeco wood splitter to power my cardboard baler.Recently,I topped it off with Wal-Mart hyd oil.When it gets warm it foams and makes soft cyl pressure[no compaction].It has a new pump and engine,so cyl and valve is all that is old.any thoughts or suggestions? THANKS

Foams........always on you sutionside ..........check for loose hoseclamps loose connectors or a blocked filter !

once you get the suction leak fixed. you will most likely need to "fully extend" then "fully contract" hyd cylinder a few times. to help remove excess air, within the lines and cylinder itself, any other air in the system after that... should work itself out through normal use of the hyd cylinders.

if oil looks foamy / milky after a few minutes (assumption you have fixed suction leak and just air still within everything). you may need to shut down machine and let it set for a half day or so. to let air rise up out of the oil. and then repeat the "fully extend" and "fully contract" the cylinder a few times.

The difference between foamy oil and emulsified oil, { water in hyd fluid ] is that the air in foamy fluid will eventually purge itself, where once water and fluid mix, it will mostly stay mixed and looks creamy, or milky.

If the fluid stays milky, you need to change it out soon, and find the water leak.

I changed the filter and tightened the clamps. Upon further checking, it seems to be blowing air out of the tank,while valve is centered.When cyl is retracted tankis very full but when extended oil is to low.I don't know where to go from here and can't afford a service call. Please help,it will be greatly appreciated.Thanks

You are generating air.

Check the suction tube circuit or whatever is cavitating ..

bad suction hose
