Bush Hog 297 or Landpride RCF 2784

Looking at 7ft rotary cutters. Can get the Landpride here locally for $2900 and the Bush Hog for $3200 I think. Any thoughts? JD 4720 with Cab and bucket. Cutting about 25 acres with some brush up to 2" or so. Thanks!

Landpride is a very good unit, but again so is Bush Hog. But for $300 I would go with the Landpride.

I should add that I have a Landpride RCR2672 and it has been a tough unit that has been abused for 5+ years and has held up well.

BUT, according to bushhog the 297 is a discontinued model, and the BH27 is the replacement. Also has nearly identical specs. Might be some incentive to get a better deal on the 297.

If I were you though, I'd overlook the 7' single spindle cutters and look to an 8' twin. You tractor will handle it better. Something like a BH2008 ro LP2596. You give up some cut capacity, but once the first mowing is done, as long as you keep it maintained there is no need for a heavier duty cutter unless you plan on cutting commercially IMO

Or buy a 3008 and have the HD capacity. FWIW, saving the $300 to buy a Landpride will get eaten up in blade and blade bolt replacement costs over time. Bush hog blade and bolt prices are far better than Landpride's (or Woods, for that matter). I agree with bargaining hard on the leftover BH.

I agree with this. That 7' single spindle is heavy and hangs WAY back there. The JD 4720 should have the PTO HP to run it, but that's a lot of leverage hanging off the back of the tractor.

I bought my 7' SQ84T for just a tad less than $3,000 and it is a very capable piece of equipment. It does not have near the length that a single spindle bushog has and it is wider on the right side of my tractor by about 15". That comes in pretty handy around a tree line or fence line. I am very pleased with it. Not trying to sell a brand just commenting on my experience.

That SQ84T is the only 7 foot multi-spindle cutter that I know of. I seem to remember it's rated for 1.5" brush, which is a little lighter duty than the 2008 8' cutter I think, but it's still a very capable cutter. If I was going for a 7' cutter, that would be the one I'd pick.

Yeah, I was interested in the SQ84t too. He has one of those for $2900 I think. He also has a 2008 and possibly a 3008. What's the opinion on the SQ84? Is the offset desirable or not? I like the thought of a 7ft dual spindle. I can probably handle the 2008 just fine and I probably am not going to be cutting much over 1.5" anyway. Might just go for the 2008.
