New Max 26xl

I have to agree, it seems to be a stout little unit. I have taken it off and remounted it about 4 times now. Always remove it in my shop with concrete floor. Really simple and quick to do. Think it takes about 5 min. at best to remount it. Removing it is even quicker.

I have about 10 hrs on it now. Spent some time with it today doing some loader work, put the rear blade on and did some touch up on my driveway, filled in some low spots in the back yard etc. So far I am happy with it. Wish I would have bought it sooner.:D It is so much easier to maneuver around the yard than my MF 65, the loader bucket is smaller and I may have to make 2 trips but I can do it just as quick with the max with no gears to change.
Tonka,
Glad your 26 is everything you were hoping for! My 28 has the shuttle and I'm okay with that, but I know how convenient that HST is. I was fortunate to have used my neighbor's Kubota bx22 before I ordered this tractor so I was confident that the 28 would suit my needs. Originally I owned a full size bh that had an extendable hoe. My joke to the dealer was does it come with an extenda-ho? His answer, 'yes, it's called reverse'. Hey, I posted on the general 'Attachment' site if you are ever interested in getting a pto chipper. I got it with my tractor and have had fun using it. Check it out if you are ever curious as to what they can accomplish. it ran me $1900. I don't mind burning tops, but thought that I could use them for ground cover in the garden, etc. Good luck

hard to compare the creature comforts on the xl to the old 65, you will learn to love the newer tractor for the ease of use, just go at your projects a bit slower, also watch the terrain, the old massey is much heavier, easy to get tipsy on the xl.

All in all the new 26xl is a great choice that will serve you very well !!!!

Well I had my first little problem with my max today. I had been digging out stumps and leveling ground when I decided I needed something to drink. Drove up next to the house went to set the parking brake and it died. I didn't think too much about it. Went in got some water and went back out. Tried to start it up and...nothing. Figured it had to be a safety switch or something simple. Checked the PTO lever put it in neutral etc. and tried again. Still nothing. Popped the hood and started checking fuses. Ended up being the ETR solenoid fuse. Replaced it and it cranked right up. Don't know what caused it to blow. Anyone else have this fuse blow regularly?

My Max28xl died today with exactly 100.0 hours on the speedometer. Checked all the safety switches and couldn't find anything wrong. Decided to google my problem and came across this thread. Went out to the tractor and pulled out my ETR solenoid fuse and it was blown. Replaced it and the tractor started right up. Thanks tonka800a for reporting your problem and fix, sure made life easy for me!

tonka, have you come up with any answers on blowing the ETR solennoid fuse?? I have the same machine as you do and have blown that fuse at least 6-7 times... Going to contact dealer tomorrow (tractor only has 25 hrs) Also I've cut the wire under the seat 3 times now turning seat to work w backhoe!! Lots of electrical tape under there now.. Good little machine but could do without these quirks

Haven't gotten an answer on why the ETR fuse is blowing, yet. It's been raining so much here I haven't had a chance to use it much. If you find anything out be sure to let us know. Mine has only blown out one time so far (about 20hrs in it). Wonder if it has something to do with using the backhoe or the wires under the seat?

please define ETR for us relative newbees to modern diesels.

oldpilgrim, this is Brian the guy who bought your bucket (which is working out great by the way) Great question on ETR i looked it up and not real sure. best i could find was it has to do with starter solenoid. Still not positive. Anyone??

Hey Brian, good to hear the bucket is working well for you.

I bet the E in ETR means Electronic. :)

BTW I was in Windham last Wed.

I believe it stands for "energize to run" at least that's what I understand. If the solenoid has no power, the engine won't run.

I have been reading and searching this site for a few years now, finally decided to register. I looked at the Max series a couple years ago and almost bought one then. I ended up buying a used MF 65 with loader which has been a good tractor, but I really needed smaller tractor with a backhoe. A few weeks ago I went back to my tractor research then last week I visited the dealership. They had a 26xl on the lot but the backhoe they would have to order. After working out an agreeable price I had them order me a tractor. I got a new 26xl hst w/backhoe and thumb delivered yesterday morning. Only problem right now is that it has been snowing ever since and I only got to play with it for about 20 min. before I had to go to work yesterday!! (I did get the tires muddy though)

Hi, Could you share some info about the Thumb? Was it an aftermarket unit or something that the dealer installed? Have been thinking about one, but not sure where to look.
Thanks
Derrell........

Thumb was dealer installed and has been extremely useful. Can pick up rocks and trees and move them easily. Dealer should be able to order one.

Thank you. Was just at the dealers a couple hours ago to pick up some grease for the 10 hour grease job, and never thought to inquire about it.
Is yours mechanical or hydraulic? Found a site that sells thumbs and they offer 3 prices, - for Mech., Part Hyd. and Full Hyd.

Thanks again, Derrell...

I have a mech thumb supplied as OEM from my dealer. It is very useful.

I asked about a hyd thumb but they told me Mahindra didn't offer one for mine and since yours is smaller, I'd expect the same.

I'm sure that someone makes one that would fit but to me the extra cost and particularly the cost of the needed hydraulics wasn't worth the extra cost to me.

I'm not disappointed with my decision not to get a hydro version.

Thank you,
I looked around the net and came up with an outfit that offers three versions and various lengths and prices. The mechanical version looks like it is going to win out. There are probably a number of dealers for them, but this one happened to pop up.
Mini Excavator and Backhoe Thumb attachments
In case any one else is looking for one.
Thanks for your input.

Derrell, thanks for posting this. My dealer wants $625.00 plus shipping for a thumb manufactured by Rankin. bma equipments sales has a similar thumb, 1" shorter, and almost half the price of the Rankin, and bma ships free. This will really help my wallet.

I'm pretty sure I paid 400 for my mech 3016 thumb from my dealer.
