good morning all, mid seventies going to about 90 today, going to trim some shrubs today while I have my helper here to pick up after me. Sure makes that job easier...
then I've got 150 pounds of weed and feed to put down, hopefully in anticipation of a little rain this week. Am trying the "off brand" at 30 bucks a bag instead of Scotts at 45. Very curious to see if there is any difference in admittedly a comparison with a huge number of variables, including my setting on the pull spreader. Huge differences in parts of my lawn. Behind the house it is so lush in centipede grass I think I could fall flat on my face on the lawn and not get hurt. It feels like a thick carpet underneath. Other places, some with fescue, some with Bermuda apparently, are much thinner, lower and unhappy looking compared to the better areas so they are getting first dibs this time. I can't put this stuff down on five acres, just too much lawn, so trying to concentrate more around the house.
Went to the local rental place and took my time studying trenching machines and overseeders. Guy there was knowledgeable and took the time to show me all the alternatives, including the six inch wide Ditchwitch or equivalent that is used for putting down perf pipe/orangeburg by the locals. He told me to do my measurements, get my pipe onsite, get my fill material ready, and then rent the machine. This is the less expensive alternative to renting a mini excavator.
I also want to run one inch water pipe out to my orchard, but a six inch trench is really overkill for that in this sandy soil.
I was hoping to rent one of these for the water pipe job:
Amazon.com : NorthStar Edger/Trencher - 200cc Honda GX Engine : Power Edgers : Patio, Lawn & Garden but there were none. Lots of sidewalk edgers but not mini trenchers.
