Okay so I'm looking at 2 replacements. Either a Deere 5075E or a Mahindra Mpower 85. Has anyone had experience with either one?

My 5045E is perhaps not a good comparison but it is a long way up from your present tractor. the 553 loader lifts 4000lbs, They are using a different model on new production but capabilities are similar. The 3 pth lifts 3000lbs. Get the telescoping draft links and at least two rear remotes with one plumbed up to a third function on the loader. Bare machine weights 5050 and the loader weighs about 1500. the 72" bucket alone weighs 450. If you do much loader work you will want the rear tires loaded. it is just a matter of safety and stability. and in addition to that if your doing heavy lifting like wet manure you need 2000 lbs on the 3PH as counter weight to take strain off the front axle. Stay off the lawn and the septic tank covers with it. Check the brakes before you take delivery as some have an over travel issue on the first pump. Also check all your radiator hose clamps early and often along with rim bolts until everything gets settled in. I really like mine, and a 5075E should be great for your needs.

I just got a quote on a 5085E that was turned in with 100 hours. They are asking $49,500.00 with the H260 farm loader and cab.

They have 4 of these all from the same outfit (one with the 553 loader). I feel like there is some room for negotiation.

What do you guys think?

Well if you go to JD's build your own site you can get to $61K PDQ. Who had it for the 100 hours? A chat with him might be useful.

It was a snow plowing outfit that just lost a big contract.

I'm also looking at the MPower 85 by Mahindra. I just got back from the dealer and I'm **** impressed. 5 year warranty, grapple option, and 5k on the loader.

Looking at new tractors but why not look at some older John Deere tractors that could be a hundred horse for ten grand maybe and they might last just as long with more options and power steering at ,leaves lots of room for equipment and Etc.....

I did look a bit for older equipment. The problem is the loader options. Older tractors rarely come with loaders or MFWD and hardly ever both. Older equipment is perfect for straight farming, I just use my tractor for utility work more than I use it to
"farm".

I almost bought a compact track loader for that very reason but I don't want 2 pieces of equipment when one will do the job.

The only real problem with the M85 in my opinion is that It would be nicer to have a 16x16 transmission. 12x12 works fine, but a 16x16 would be better in my opinion. Other than that, it is one fine machine.:thumbsup:

Just my :2cents:

I did notice that on the Deere 5085E I didn't have to push in the clutch to throw the reverser. On the M85 I have to clutch while using the reverser.

It's not the end of the world mostly because the Deere is WAY out of my price range.

A lot of people make a big deal about that, and it very well may be for them, I have never found that it was a concern of mine. Yes it would be nicer to have a power shuttle, but in reality, not that big of a deal, for me anyway. ;)

How important the clutchless operation is depends on the jobs and setting you will deal with. If your work is in open property then it is not as important, if you have tight quarters work the power reverser gains importance.

I got the quote from Mahindra on the m85. They want 44k and will give me 11k for the 3038e (250 Hours) and 305 loader. That seems really high for an off brand open station tractor. Without any haggling at all I can pick up a Deere 5085e with cab and h260 loader for 48k. Or they have a brand new 5065 with loader and power reverser for 29k.

Seems I have some more figuring to do. If all tractors in this power class are roughly the same price than I will for sure go with Deere.

I wouldn't consider a Mahindra an ''off brand'' tractor

Mahindra is not an off brand tractor first of all. Second I do not consider 44K for an 85HP premium tractor excessive. Remember that the JD is a base model, and the MPower is a top line model IIRC. 33K out the door is actually pretty good.

That isn't $33k out the door it is $44K less the trade in of $11k.

I think Mahindra is a good brand from what I have seen and heard but then there are a lot of good brands today. I currently have all Deere because they have better support in my area, still about 75 miles away though. Other brands are farther away. I have not seen the newest Mahindra models, no dealer nearby so I can't offer any help there with a comparison.

I have looked at the 5085E and the 5085M side by side and the E is much lighter duty and lower priced. I decided to skip buying a new tractor and will buy a much older larger tractor and keep my 4520 cab tractor instead. My thinking is having a 150hp older tractor and the 60hp hydro will be a good combination. I am considering an older CaseIH as there are some available for reasonable money with mfwd and power shift. Just mentioning this because you might consider adding a second tractor that is older for a lot less money.

I probably should have rephrased the "off brand tractor" part. Mahindra is no doubt a major global brand, I was more referring to it not being part of the legacy New Holland/Deere/Case IH/Kubota crew.

The 5085E is a fairly stout machine, it actually has more features than the Mahindra including the electro-mechanical reverser (no clutch) and a stronger loader. If I want zero percent financing the price from Mahindra was actually more expensive than the Deere with the cab. I'm honestly surprised that Deere beat them by so much because normally you pay a premium for green.

I'm fairly open minded and have no problem switching brands if the value is there. I do appreciate all the input!

Please clarify this??? I don't see the numbers to add up to that. Something is not adding up cost wise either. I simply can't see how an open station Mahindra costs more than a cab Deere of the same size.
