Forgive my ignorance. I have zero experience with a plow. I'm looking to buy a used 2 point plow. I see some are just the plow blades and others have the wheels that cut the ground first. Not sure what they are called. My question is do I need the "cutting wheels" or not necessary. I've found a used Dearborn 2 bottom plow near me at a decent price but it doesn't have the "wheels". I'm just looking to plow a relatively small area for a garden. If it matters tractor is a 40hp. Thanks

The wheels are called "coulters" and their main use is to cut sod or tough ground ahead of the plow point(s)...

You don't need coulters if the grass has been plowed within the past year or so. If it has been longer than that, long grass and roots tend to get bunched up on the front of the plow, and you have to stop and remove it by hand unless you have a coulter to slice a narrow channel through the long stuff so the plow can follow in the slot.

You might consider bush hogging it again shortly before you plow. That way, you will have fewer attached log stalks to bunch up.
