To each his own, but I have never understood why anybody would pay so much money for fancy coffee....I have never even tried a Starbucks or even an upscale Mickey D's coffee.

Don't drink, smoke, or chase strange. Still got my 1st wife and all my stuff. But some of that coffee is really goooood!! :)

Some people don't form their political opinions solely on the basis on financial self-interests. Whether or not I agree with most of Scott's politics, I think it's insulting to suggest that his only motivation for forming his opinions is the selfish pursuit of what is best for him.

I think you are saying that I insulted HS. I don't know that anyone can insult HS more than he insults others. Here is his quote in this thread about me "Most people with your point of view I've come across in life either lack ambition or just weren't successful, and now claim their situation is what they like, what a crock, good luck justifying that to your self and others and celebrating your race to the bottom".

Luck? I worked 40 years for my comfortable retirement. I moved to where the employment opportunities were and took advantage of the opportunities I created through hard work. No luck involved. The luck I had in my life was my wife marrying me.

Everyone should enjoy Starbucks. What is not to love?

"A fool and his money are soon parted."

Not directing this at anyone here btw, just adding a quote on the subject.

Whats not to love? How about charging $5.00 for a cup of coffee that at best is only worth $1.50.

To me: Buying a $5 coffee at Starbucks is a status symbol for some people...they want to convince themselves they are big operators and worthy of spending such an inflated price. I doubt if the coffee there is even worth $1.50.

Can't speak to Starbucks as I have never had a Starbucks coffee...

On the other hand, I work at a Hospital and Starbucks cards are the standard gift of the realm... the nurses and staff really appreciate them.

I can honestly say I have never done it and hope that I never become so befuddled that I ever will.

i think folks buy that because it tastes good.

I have been researching setting up a coffee shop. The most expensive coffee has a cost of about $1.10.

That would be nice to think so but I doubt that it tastes three times better then regular coffee made right in a clean coffee machine.

Misquote: Love of money is the root of evil.

This is the second time someone has said something similar. I wasn't quoting anyone so it is not a misquote.

I bet if you asked the Starbucks drinkers to put it in a plain white cup with no logo or a McDs cup and more than half would object.

Don't buy the coffee, buy the stock.

Edit: on second thought, since I am a major shareholder.... Buy the coffee.

Bad behavior, to be sure. But I think that using someone else's bad behavior as an excuse for your own is also poor form.

I can make coffee that I think tastes better than Starbucks, but I will say that they have raised the quality of coffee in general in the country. I used to hate the "Denny's" coffee and the whole instant coffee. Kind of like beer. The microbrews raised the quality of beer selection.

So is your ranking on me and not on HS. Enough said. Back to the subject of the thread.
