Thoughts on mounting a 2500b winch on BX?

I hope he buys one for emergencies and NEVER HAS AN EMERGENCY. At about $50@ they are only a little more costly than a cheap come-along.

Well, I didn't get to my 'local' HF today, it's about a 40min drive one way. The price at $59 doesn't allow you to use additional coupon I am sure. Going to look online and still might pull the trigger tonight if I can get the same price.... just checked and yes and $6.99 shipping! Buying it now... what the heck... cheap enough I can't go wrong as long as the only thing I fry would be the winch! :shocked:

I really don't think I will use it much. I am now thinking about how and where to mount it. Would be nice to have an option to mount front or rear with a quick disconnect depending on how I want to use it and whether my BH is on or not.

The extra battery would be nice but space is a premium on a BX so I am going to try to get along without it to start. Maybe if I use it more than I am thinking, I will look at adding a second battery. Maybe that is part of the quick disconnect design?

I also want a place onboard for my 20ft chain/hooks. So maybe I incorporate that as part of a storage system.

Helped install one a buddy bought used on Craigslist... paid $150 for it and said it was a steal. Set it up to fit a 2" receiver...

Did you notice I capitalized the word NEW? Heck, I bought 10 sections of 12'x4' pallet racking with 3 sets of beams and six wire shelves PER section for $10 EACH section. Far less than what normally just 1 beam or 1 shelf would cost on CL. I'm sure there is someone out there whose gotten a hydraulic winch for FREE. But it's not the going rate.

Sorry, but you hit one of my sore points, all the people on this board advising solutions (hydraulic winch) WAY more expensive than the OP's perceived needs, then other posters pile in about the CL deal somebody made that is rare.

Eaxctly, I watch CL pretty much obsessively using search tempest, and while I have found a few decent prices that worked for me, most of what I see is either overpriced or pretty much market-prices on run-of-the-mill equipment, not the superdeals that others seem to find on a regular basis.

Seems sometimes like some members have had better luck with that than others, and I guess, like anythimg else, it often has to do with being in just the right place at the right time.

This would certainly seem to be the most versatile way to do it.

Granted I haven't thought this through but I am dwelling on the front mount with FEL installed. The rear mount with a hitch receiver makes good sense for sure. Was also looking for a way to possibly mount to rear with implement installed, whether it the BH or 3pt mounted. Don't have the winch in hand yet to wave it around and see where/how it might fit.

I would rather be lucky than smart as the old saying goes... only suggested hydraulic as an option not dependant on amperage draw, duty cycle, etc. and the one mentioned was new... surplus industrial...

For my part... I still use manual winches... mostly a chain fall and lots of chain to extricate my BX... luckily there are lots of trees on my property...

One of the things I love about TBN are the suggestions that come out of left field and get me thinking of things or looking at a problem in ways I never would have considered...

By the way... I had a Harbor Freight 2500# unit in my hand today... looks like three bolts is all it takes... maybe commercial jumper cable quick power connects or electric wheel chair quick disconnects...
