Mahindra 3016
This is happening more and more lately. I've had the 3016 shuttle just short of a year and half. I've used the traction lock maybe 5 times in that period. Of late, when I push the pedal down it fails to come up. I've had to disengage the break strap and alternately push down on the left and right brake. This usually unsticks the thing and the pedal comes back up. Just wondering if anyone else is confronting this. For the remedy (alternate pedal breaking) to be put in the 3016 manual, I'm thinking Mahindra knows about it as well. I've lubed the area with WD 40 but I doubt anything is getting in there. Something else is amiss that perhaps someone has discovered a fix for?

If they have that remedy in the owner's manual, sounds to me like it's a design characteristic internal to the diff, maybe in the way that the diff locks up. Probably not a cause for concern if it's acknowledged in the manual.

I would agree here S except that it used to come up by itself. Dealer knows about the Mahindra fix but does not know about a permanent remedy. I am wondering if a brake rod adjustment has anything to do with it as the right pedal is more forward than the left as a result of having to mesh with the teeth on the stationary hold break. Right brake travel is shortened when the differential is locked and lengthens a bit when it disengages.

I had the same problem on my 2615. WD40 did nothing, I was way past the end of my warranty so didn't want to take it in for that. I used a penetrant lube (PB Blaster) and added a return spring to assist pulling the pedal back up. On mine it was binding where the diff lock shaft goes thru and lack of use must have created some rust in there. Alternate braking didn't release mine. I think the tolerance where the shaft goes thru is too tight. Even with the spring assist I still had to manually pull the pedal up.
I found this out by jacking up the rear of the tractor, ran it in 2 WD and engaged the diff lock. After numerous applications of PB and adding the return spring it started to free up and work.

Thanks George. When it warms up some, I'll give this a shot. How'd you mount the spring if it's not too much trouble?

On mine I just hooked the spring under the pedal and up over the sheet metal. Not sure if the 3016 has the same kind of pedal. No longer have that tractor so no pics of it. I had picked up a few universal springs of various spring rates at the hardware store and used one strong enough to pull the pedal up but not too strong that I couldn't push the pedal down with my foot.

Gotcha. Thanks

Just clean it up real well work it back and forth a lot.... and use it more often... you may try holding the diff and break down at the same time while running it a bit.

What might help me Nava is a schematic of how the thing engages. I am unclear how the brakes interact with the locking mechanism.

I own a Max 28 and have the manual for it. I know that you have the next size up tractor, but I am betting that there is very little difference between the two- aside from mine having a smaller tire/wheel. I will post a scanned image for you if you wish:)
