i'll stick with JD b/c I can still walk in and get parts for my 1978 JD212 any day of the week. I can do that for ANY product they have.

This is untrue. There are plenty of Deere machines that are no longer supported, and the owners have to resort to salvage yards to find parts. That isn't the majority of Deere machines, but it's not uncommon. There have been quite a few posts about that issue here the last few years.

This can happen with virtually any brand these days.

You can't expect a brand to support all parts for a machine that is 30 years old. You can't go to a car dealer and get anything you need for a 30 year old car. The same goes for chainsaws and many other things. When the parts are selling they are not going to support it.

pretty strange that I've had a lot of different machinery and worked on a lot of machinery and I have never had the JD dealer turn me down for getting ANY parts for ANY machine.

i've seen soem pretty old Stihls and they still have the parts for them.. I don't know where you guys are shopping but if I buy a not that big a name machine then it's usually impossible to find a part for it.. so I stick with large names like JD so I know I can get parts easily. My operation is to important for down time trying to make or find a part.

That's just my little opinion though. you guys buy what you want, i'll do the same. :cool2:

There have been quite a few threads here about Deere models no longer supported and actually some about Stihl models no longer fully supported.....it's not just one or two people, and it's not dealer specific. People have clearly called all around the country and no Deere dealer can get parts for them.

Of course you can buy whatever you want, but you jumped into a thread about Cabela's tractors and started comparing them to other brands....not really the topic.

I needed a gearbox part for my older deere hay rake a couple years ago... deere didn't have it and couldn't get it... so I welded and reground my old part until I got it going again...

Past fall had my Cub Cadet push leaf vac in for a problem. Turns out cylinder needed to be replaced. Unfortunately no replacement parts avail. Was about 13 years old.

Has anyone seen a cabelas tractor being used by anyone?

In one of the many threads here on the topic, somebody posted that they knew a wealthy guy who bought one for his hunting camp...that's the only nearly first-hand use I've heard of.

Not sure if I noticed this before, but you're only like 5mi away from me!

There are a couple of post in the TYM forum from 2 Cabela tractor owners. One has a 35 hp and the other the 43 hp.

Yes on Bunton Rd.

Wow, that is close...I'm just east of Rawsonville. Small world/forum!

Sorry for the thread drift...back to the regularly scheduled Cabela's discussion

I wonder what the resale value of a Cabelas tractor will be in 7 or 8 years....it's not all about a low acquisition price.

I wonder if they'll be selling tractors in 10 years. Not a dig against them (I like a bunch of their private label stuff), but I really wonder if this is going to work long(er) term.

Conversely, the prices on the Cub Cadet Yanmar's hasn't taken a beating, nor has the Bobcat Kioti used pricing since those distribution networks went south. As long as TYM remains in the US market, I think these machines will hold their resale. Will you be able to find a secondary market buyer who's willing to pay the premium for a green TYM, or will it be compared at the price their regular line sells for?

I don't worry too much about resale, I worry about whether I'm buying a good tractor or not!

You guys must trade tractors like car's or something? I still have the Kubota I bought NEW in 1986. I also have two other tractors I bought NEW in 1996 and 1998...

Personally, I like the looks of the Cabelas green paint better than the TYM red, but of course, that's a personal choice...

Never wanted to trade up Rob? What if you have to move and can't keep it? Resale value isn't just about flipping.

When buying NEW, i do my home work and buy right the first time!

I bought my Kubota when I lived in Alaska, when I moved to the lower 48, I brought it with me...

When I was a kid, I bought a Harley, I could afford to buy it, I could NOT afford to keep it! I NEVER let that happen to me again....EVER! AND it will never happen again!

I NEVER buy over my head, if I can't afford to buy/keep something, it doesn't come home with me, and that goes to EVERYTHING I buy.....INCLUDING the Harley sitting in my garage! lol

If you're considering a Cabelas tractor you probably should worry about whether you're buying a good tractor or not.
Buying a JD or Kubota, for example, you'll very likely get a good tractor AND good resale value. To each his own.

Cabelas sent me a nice offer today. Their LM35 with a hydro trans, FEL, and a mower (brush hog) for 19,999. You also receive a $500 gift card for the store.

Combining this with a zero interest rate could really get these selling.
