2016 Nissan Titan

I too was hoping for a 14k rated tow. If it's like Ford, that is only for a specific model, not a crew.

I'm thinking mpg would need to be high 20s or low 30s to be an advantage.

For what it's worth the reveal said the tow rating would be over 12000#.

Current RAMs have all that including the ECOdiesel. And, I will never own another vehicle without the heated steering wheel. Getting old sucks and the arthritis in my finger joins is relieved by the heat.

The Titan has a huge mountain to climb over, likely something it can not do. A new unproven engine, and Aisin transmission that we don't know about yet, no pricing info or payload info yet. Nissan sold just under 13,000 trucks last year, that is about the number of F150s Ford sells each week. Good luck to them.

You're mistaken on this point. This engine has been used in school busses for several years now. I saw a write up on it about a year ago. VERY flexible power band, the torque band doesn't peak fast and fall off like most in the big 3, but hangs there for about 1500 RPM across the band. Makes a huge difference in pulling power like that.

The engine has proven very reliable because it's not new technology to Cummins. You gotta look at Cummins history to know they don't put out unproven engines. If the Aisin is the same one Dodge uses, it too has been proven very reliable in other vehicles, and well up to the 865lbft of torque the High Output engine it comes with in the Dodge lineup.

Looks to me like Nissan did their homework on this one. I like the styling, and if they copied the last Fords, well, maybe Ford should have stuck with that style. Time will tell. The Eco Boost sure had a lot of naysayers. If this thing delivers all that power and about 25+ mpg hwy, they won't be able to build enough. That's my prediction, IF priced reasonably. Of course, what's reasonable to me might not to some one else. I saw a 2014 Ecoboost almost 60K. Mind boggling for ANY 1/2 ton truck. But if Ford gets that for their top end F150, Nissan will too.

I was using information from my son and from Cummins. It is my understanding this is a new engine that also has a commercial version still under final testing and development. Both GM and Chrysler were looking at this engine before the automotive collapse so it fell near dead in its development until Nissan started looking at it. My son is a powertrain engineer at Chrysler currently assigned to the diesel programs. Here is the Cummins' release; Cummins Engines This press release and this one (NEW CUMMINS 5.0L V8 TURBO DIESEL BRINGS MANUFACTURING BACK TO DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS - Cummins Engines) seem to support what my son told me.

Both Cummins and Aisin provide outstanding commercial quality products but when profits drive a company and there is rush to market, mistakes can happen. The eight speed transmission RAM uses is a proven transmission used in luxury vehicle since 2008. At first RAM use it was running good until Chrysler decided to take over the transmission calibrations. This kind of stuff happens and is no reflection back to the supplier but to the integrator of the product. This is why I say unproven, I'm not concerned about the product (Cummins and Aisan) as much as the integration (Nissan).

My son did tell me Cummins will handle the warranty work (if any) on the engine, how the logistics work I don't know.

Well guys I did see an early press release by Nissan that in essence said this Cummins was an alternative to gas at a reasonable price as opposed to..."the heavy duty diesels" I read that as..an alternative to 6.7 Cummins, Power Stroke or Duramax. In other words they were pitching it as a cost effective alternative to gasoline OR a Dodge with the VM diesel. The message clearly was.."this is no 6.7 Cummins, Power Stroke or Duramax.

Gotcha, but the report I read on the engine was that it has been in bus service for several years. Of course it was an article on the internet, so of course it has to be true....

I think they did a nice job on the appearance. If I read it correctly though this is a "heavy duty" half ton so like diamond pilot said, a tow rating around 14k would make more sense since normal half tons now have a tow rating of 10-12k. Give it a year and they might make some adjustments.

Wish they'd offer a diesel in the smaller pickup.

I understand from the GMC both at the International Auto Show going on right now, the Colorado will get a diesel for MY16.

I'm very impressed. Really like the Intergrated gooseneck hitch. Does anybody else offer that?
I worked at the Canton plant for a while and we used the titans. It's a tough truck but it needed some improvements and changes. Happy to see better axles. I got my butt chewed by some supervisors for taking of one our titan work trucks through the test track with a pallet of quickcrete in the bed. I thought they should have used it for a commercial!!

Ram offers an integrated gooseneck hitch from the factory and I think ford does too but only on the 3/4 and up. Honestly I prefer the B&W flip over ball.

Ford has offered a factory GN and factory 5th wheel since 2010.

I think this truck was built to target the RV crowd. I don't see people in the RV world as dedicated to a specific brand as other groups tend to be. For them pulling MPG is pretty important. What's funny is that if this truck does well it'll most likely hurt itself since Toyota reportedly is thinking about using the same engine in the Tundra. So if Nissan sells a decent number I expect Toyota to go ahead next year.

Looks like the last generation Ford...

It sure does, but it is a good looking truck. If it is nice inside and drives like it looks, it should do fine. I have always thought that Nissan made good driving vehicles.

I think all truck makers, and their ads, should show the EXACT tow rating for every vehicle produced, not some blanket "Ram can tow 30,000lbs" when that is only the 3500, std cab, long bed, with HO engine and tranny. If a commercial depicts a crew cab, then they should have to show THAT trucks tow rating, and NOT by some guy spitting out 300 words a second or in fine print in a 3 point font at the bottom of the screen.

It should be CLEARLY stated what pin/tongue weight can be added, period. This business of having to weigh every freaking part of the truck and trailer just to know what you REALLY have is all wrong. A label should be on every vehicle that is allowed to tow ANYTHING what the front, and rear axles weigh, and what is allowed after that. Then EVERY RV sold by a dealer should have similar pre-weighed stickers on it.

Beyond that if someone adds stuff to the truck or RV, one they take delivery, it's on them.

Their tow rating adds are as transparent as Washington.

laws governing what you can legally tow/what licensing you need vary state to state and vary based on usage.
