Thanks for the towing advice but I already have a 3/4 ton diesel that seems to do just fine for me without flooring it. If I need to tow anything bigger I get the lowboy out. Sounds like you might have a power issue if you are having to put the pedal to the floor that often. You should consider HP and Torque.:D

Funny how your statement acts like the ecodiesel is some underpowered truck. You really think an ecodiesel wont' climb a small hill without putting it on the floor? LAffin.

I have driven the ecodiesel and it is underpowered for towing it's rated capacity. 240 HP is nothing at 70 mph towing 8000 lbs. 100 percent throttle would be required to climb a small Hill at 70 mph. Simple math really.

The only time I have my foot on the floor is when I'm having fun. The ecoboost requires so little effort otherwise. Same torque as the ecodiesel with 125 more HP for the highway.

6.2 was a GM. Yes, they were junk. My FIL had one.

My dad had a 6.2. 280,000 miles and it pulled our horse trailer just fine. Less than 150 hp and about 250 ft pounds or torque. It would not surprise me if that truck was capable of getting 30 mpg or even more.

I can understand deleting post if there is cursing or people are really going at each other but for sarcasm? Are we not adults? I look at thread like these as guys hanging out giving each other a hard time about their vehicle of choice an a little ribbing has never really hurt anyone.

You have not seen the posts that have already been trimmed, from this thread and others. They were anything but 'a little ribbing'.

Can you show me what "simple math" you used to figure that full throttle would be required to go 70 in an ecodiesel?

What cruising RPM would you be driving the ecoboost truck engine at to be making 365HP? Just curious.

Well maybe so-

but I doubt many late 1980's Ford F-350 owners will sell because of their (gutless) 190 hp diesel engine- and when compared to the 3.0 Eco diesels 240 hp is an advantage of 50 horsepower over the turboed 7.3 liter.


It is really all relative -

The 7.3 is a good towing engine- just like the 3.0 is a good 1/2 ton towing engine- they just take a little longer getting there, when compared to some of the high hp trucks.

and no i don't think the 7.3 is gutless- just trying to point out that it is subjective as to what is required power wise.




One other question that will be asked by new eco diesel owners soon enough is -

whether the 3.0 US version can be tuner-ed (legally) and regardless of warranty,

from what has been posted elsewhere it sounds like the euro versions can be set up to reliably produce 315 hp and 520 lb.ft. torque AND Also gain around 10-15% in fuel economy...

5,000. Sound about right cruising down the highway pedal to the metal at 5,000 rpm's racing eco diesels pulling heavy trailers up hills and blowing the dodge off the road.
