I find that interesting as well. Many of these tests they do will never happen in the real world simply because people don't drag race up hills with trailers. 1/4 mile times? I have never once sat and wondered if my truck would beat another truck in a 1/4 mile drag race, its' just not what I use it for.

So how often does the average truck owner put the pedal to the metal on your truck and give it fill throttle? I might get on it for a few seconds passing on a 2 lane highway but beyond that I never give it 100% throttle so how it performs at full throttle is really all but meaningless.

To me dependability and mileage are the most important factors to consider. I'd buy a truck with 100 hp if it would never ever break down and got 40 mpg. Could care less how fast it is in the 1/4 mile.

You and I are different. I do put my pedal down somewhat often and dream about taking it to the track. You should consider HP and Torque if you are towing or you will find yourself at 100% throttle just to climb the smallest hills or even cruise in a headwind. Just look at the passing times for the ecodiesel vs the ecoboost and it is almost embarrassing on the ecodiesel.

I agree that drag racing with heavy trailers or a half ton in the bed is not realistic, but I have come to realize why those tests are important. I don't have much heavy traffic in most of my driving, but have recently had the opporunity to drive on congested highways and through mountains, with a full ton in my bed. It was educational. I now understand how their tests correlate to getting up to speed and merging into full traffic. Maybe not WOT, but somewhere close to it. And without a capable engine it would be dangerous. I did select my truck with payload as one of the most important criteria, but also wanted an overall good vehicle. I don't get swayed by the brands' "best in class" marketing garbage. There is no single perfect truck. Guys have to decide what features are important to them, and then go shopping to fill that need.

There was a recent road test between a Challenger, Mustang, and Camaro. The Challenger was the quickest in all the drag racing and acceleration tests, of course it didn't "win". Like I said earlier, the tests are subjective based on the opinions on the writers for the magazine. Same thing with the trucks.

Acceleration is important to me I personally drag race a couple of times a year and took my truck once.

The Ecodiesel is probably a truck that if you compared it to trucks 25 years ago would have been a great performer, but today is middle of the pack except for the great fuel mileage.

As far as the Ecoboost, I think Ford is building a winner. We have 3 5.0 trucks at work and I like them, I'm sure the turbo motor does nothing but make them better.

If you think you would like drag racing, find a local track, its usually pretty cheap. There is a 1/8 mile drag strip about a 45 minute drive from me, they have test and tune just about every Friday night, pretty cheap, maybe $25. If you want competition, they have a True Street Class, its something like $35 to enter. Its bracket racing so having something super fast isn't that important for a class like that. They also have special event, like a truck night, which is when I took my Cummins.

SSDD  Roadhunter

As for the question Jejeosborne asked "What has soured your mind with the F150? "
I would answer that question but when we do we get our posts flamed....so maybe lets just say that it seems like there is a higher propensity for some of the owners of Ford Pickups to be arrogant and exaggerate..........and I prefer humilty ...I actually like their engines (except ecoboost problems) had a 302 V8 in my driveway for many years, the rest of that one fell apart though. ... and my son in laws front end problems , and brotherinlaw 6.2 Diesel problems , but another brotherinlaw has one of those Ford Rangers that just keeps running and running ....so not soured just careful.

6.2 was a GM. Yes, they were junk. My FIL had one.

I think it would be fun to go to the strip. My 17 year old son thinks his hyundai tiburon is quick and it would be fun to legally and safely race him side by side. We have one about 30 minutes from home and would enjoy spending an afternoon hanging out. I've been told there are all kinds of ways to have fun and some are based on how close you come to your estimated time. When my warranty is up, I may spring for a tuner and an exhaust system just for something to play with.

My son was 17 when we first went racing, he brought his car along and drove also. He is 20 now and we went again last summer twice.

Merging on the highway and passing means everything to me. Keeping speed with 10,000# on a grade in 95 deg heat is key for me. For that reason I was a diesel owner for many years because the gas options did not cut it until the Ecoboost came out. It was a game changer for many and the sales numbers prove it.

Thanks for the towing advice but I already have a 3/4 ton diesel that seems to do just fine for me without flooring it. If I need to tow anything bigger I get the lowboy out. Sounds like you might have a power issue if you are having to put the pedal to the floor that often. You should consider HP and Torque.:D

Funny how your statement acts like the ecodiesel is some underpowered truck. You really think an ecodiesel wont' climb a small hill without putting it on the floor? LAffin.

I can understand deleting post if there is cursing or people are really going at each other but for sarcasm? Are we not adults? I look at thread like these as guys hanging out giving each other a hard time about their vehicle of choice an a little ribbing has never really hurt anyone.
