Monday the propane company delivered my 1,000 gallon tank and set it up.

The propane driver told me that only about 5% are buried. Usually for aesthetic reasons. Mine is more for protection. Like from bullets - stray or intentional.
I've watched too many "doomsday prepper" episodes. :)

I don't think there's very many 1000 gal tanks either, at least for residential. Just stocking up for when .....

Buried tanks are fairly common up here in some of the upscale neighborhoods where they have CC&R's. Don't get me started about CC&R's, my land my rules!

I bought a home on 2+ acres near lake Livingston, behind it was to be a subdivision, not a shovel of earth had ever been moved.
But they had their CC&R's in place.
1 No Out Door Privies.
2 Limit of 5 Hogs.
Wish I had saved a copy of them, most were funny. Think there was a Goat restriction as well.

There are 110 forty acre parcels in our "subdivision" and we have 5 or 6 items in our CC&Rs.
1) nothing higher than two stories
2) no pig farms
3) no junk or abandon vehicles visible to any neighbors
4) no business that draws traffic, because of the road maintenance. (So a wood shop is okay, but not a restaurant.)
5) subdividing okay with minimum of ten acres.

I can live with all those. And if I can't, then I'm on the Board. :)

My wife and I came up Christmas morning to spend a few days here. A cold spell hit and it's been in the 30's during the day and the teens at night. It came suddenly so I hadn't got antifreeze in the pipes in the trailer. The water line coming in froze somewhere - no water. The gray water tank is full and the drain is frozen shut, and the black water tank is frozen. Fun times!
Our neighbors invited us over for Xmas dinner. :)
I'll be trying to thaw pipes today.
