Title says it all. Imagine you could use all your experience you acquired over all this years and use it to start again from scratch. Is there anything that stands out?

I try not to think on along those lines. You really can't change history, so it is a waste of time, IMHO.

too many mistakes ,it would take a lifetime to correct them ... ( and another life time of equally stupid mistakes ) ...

For example ... instead of trusting everyone rather than letting them earn my trust , I would have skipped a lot of heartaches ... but never would have found those really true friends ....

the past is in the past , you get one shot at it ... and there is no manual for life.... even the "experts " get it wrong....

I agree with Jaotguy, as I have passed thru this life, each and every thing that I have done, from failure and success' at work,marriage,parenting,build-it-yourself, and even friendships has guided me to where I am in life now. I am not the richest man in the world, or the poorest, The smartest or the dumbest, but I have a wife that loves and accepts me, kids that will still call just to talk, 3 dogs that think I am the king of the world, and a job that I love doing. Had I changed any one thing anywhere in this journey, it would have changed the destination (where I am now).
There was a movie once that explained it quite nicely, your life is like a line, not a straight line but a bouncing line like a pinball in a machine, bouncing from point to point, if you change any one of the points along that line, then you change every point after that, and your life would become completely different.

So, no now that I have reached "the golden years" there were times I was unhappy, and wished I could go back and change it, or go back and try and make it "right". But even changing things that turned into spectacular fails, I would be changing my life today.

I have reached this point in my life, by inflicting some emotional, and experiencing some emotional hurt on and by those life's that have interacted with mine thru the years. I am extremely happy with where I have ended up.

Sorry for the rant, if you are still reading this, I would and do now make every effort to "do it right" no shortcuts, in building relationships to building a barn. Do it right the first time, make the time and money available to your life, and projects to get it right the first time, and not have to go back and redo it later.

End of the sermon...

I just enjoy what I have, use all the mistakes as learning experiences, am glad to still be alive & in relatively good health and move on from day to day. Unless somebody knows something that the rest of us don't - "changing the past," is simply a waste of time & energy.

Yep. After graduating from HS instead of going to college I would move to Alaska.

I think knowing what I know now, I probably would have joined the military right out of High School and stayed there long enough to get full retirement benefits.

Bringing it to a more mundane and practical level related to rural living.... when my pasture was being cleared I let the clearing contractor talk me into letting him bury the stumps rather than burn them. It saved a few bucks and he assured me that since the clay here is anaerobic, they wouldn't rot. That was in 1998. After the first couple of years of settling (and he came back with fill dirt to fix it) it was fine. But now I'm installing a geothermal heat pump system and trying to put the lines in that pasture... the buried junk is a major problem.

But in my defense, at the time I was a city boy building my country place. But I should have spent the extra bucks to have the stuff properly disposed of.

I would be firm in making my own decisions [pay attention kiddies] rather than let people talk me into careers, wives, horses, et al. But:

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift -- that's why its called the present."

I would never started smoking, gone to the dentist more often and used a condom. No, strike the "condom" remark.

If I could go back in time I'd give a few certain people's parents some pamphlets on birth control.

Ditto here, I spent too much of my life trying to do what others said that I should.

I would have at least gone in for 4 years... not only would it hage gotten me out in the world, but any serviceman will tell you that they made frineds who will never let them down. Especially those who had been shot at together...

Decide what you want from life and stay the course. There is no one good decision... but the worst you can do is to make no choice at all; instead of controlling your destiny, fate will control you.
