I am going back home in a bit, need to clean up the yard, do some mowing. I think I have maybe one more round of yard work to go. Last year we had snow by the end of October, so I think we are doing ok. The leaves here are getting some nice colors. I noticed that the oak trees have lost most of their leaves already? I wonder why that is?

Good morning all. 54F this morning and rain .6 in. last 24 hr. Forecast for a whopping 56F and rain most of day. Prepping house for noon showing. Not sure what to do when I get back. Waiting to see if check engine light comes back, same one that I got in May and replaced fuel tank pressure sensor. Got some touch up on kitchen tile grout to do, most of it cleaned up nicely. All this rain is making it difficult to schedule bike rides.

David/MF: one word: priceless
good luck next week

oh I've been bad, oh so bad...
just went to the local nursery with my fireman helper and the trailer.
Like I had landed in Disneyland. 12 dollars for roses, ten dollars for all small shrubs, ten dollars for small trees. Thirty dollars for trees so big we struggled to get them in. Like a kid in a candy store. There is nothing in this world I like better than planting, and yeah, I know, you're right, just more to mow around.
But I'm hooked...and I bet there's forty plants and trees in that trailer.:confused3: including four knockout roses that I'm going to plant right now.
Two shrubs/trees a day planting keeps the doctor away.

Even better, they have balled apple, peach and pear trees. Not all the varieties I want but a good start. I think the six foot fruit trees are twenty bucks.
Amazingly cheap for what I am used to. That lady was so happy with my order, and knowing I live down the same street, that she went in and got me a jar of her special home made pear sauce, like apple sauce but made with pears, flavored with something else. Sounds yummy.and the funny part is the pears came off the trees I am about to buy and plant in my orchard.
sort of taste testing them...

Drew, what is an engineered wood floor?

real wood on top, special plywood below that is moisture resistant and does not cup or warp as solid wood will, and sure did all over half of my home.
I thought about keeping all the pine floors they are tearing out for firewood but they have been waxed heavily and some showed some mold so into the dumpster they went. Just had the chimneys cleaned and really don't want to junk them up. Much less have nails in the fireplace.

I'm
too bad you can't do the paving in Camelot. It only rains on Wednesdays there...

that was the name of my boat only because it was the name already on my first boat and the name stuck.
not sure I thought of myself as a white knight but the concept seemed ok...I do have that fireman mentality.
And since it only rained on Wednesdays in Camelot, per the song, it was an excellent omen for weekend boating on the Chesapeake.

I've thought about you Buppies this past very dry week here and while my driveway was being paved. I should have paid for you to come down and over here as a consultant and maybe my driveway edges would be straighter. Why did those guys constantly row those wheels back and forth? It just put wiggles in the edges. Why not set at ten feet and leave them alone? Particularly on a straight...

And now the dozen contractor trucks that have parked in the parking lot over the last week have really scuffed up the surface. Maybe my expectations are too high.

No not really edges should be re tamped after rolling to straighten out where they get pushed out after rolling or you can plate compact prior to rolling with gas powered compactor. Either way edges should be straight. Once a driveway is paved should be not driven on for three days allows asphalt to set up but you still will get scuff marks for about nine months. Wish I was in Camelot but we make the best with what we are dealt and yes I got two showers today one on purpose one not. My home life however is like Camelot
