I wonder who Miller is trying to target with that ap. I just think it's funny that if you want to weld 1/8" plate with 7018 that the Ap would be your go to place. Are there really welders out there that are that clueless that a few arc starts wont get them the parameters they want??? WTF... Miller is getting even more synthetic as the years go on. Kind of like Hypertherm.. Always touting USA when they only assemble here. Joke. Sorry but true..

I would say... a guy like me? Maybe a place for educating yourself when you don't weld frequently and you are interested in learning BUT don't have access to TBN welding forum?

I am with draggoneggs on this one. It may not be useful for the pros but it gives a great synopsis of basic info when you are looking at using different rods or welding processes, straight or reverse polarity.

And if you put in 1/8 inch steel it says 140-150 amps.. hmm.... 120 volt MIG is marginal for even 1/8 inch steel according to Miller.. They just make the machines I guess. I am sure they don't use them.. Nothing to see here folks... move along...:)

As am I.

It may not be useful for the pros but it gives a great synopsis of basic info when you are looking at using different rods or welding processes, straight or reverse polarity.

It is sad when a manufacturer publishes an app, or any information, that can help the newbie and they get ridiculed.

i think we also discovered why so many threads in the Welding Forum get closed. :(

Especially if your rod containers are missing the "recommended amps range" (like mine are)

I just love the sarcasm here. I'm sitting in my chair and laughing. That being said I also appreciate the fact that J_J let me know about this. I might not ever need it as I have just one welder and my favourite rods. Who knows I might just buy a 120 volt mig someday. :)

Having fun with mine! But I'm lucky I have 220v option once I wire my shop properly.

Give Miller credit for trying, even if some of those values look odd. They'll get better in time.

I have their Multimatic 200 (multiprocess) and the on-board software is pretty good. Set your process, your material, thickness and your filler and away you go. You can adjust up/down all you want, but frankly the default settings are almost always solid out of the box. They sent me a software update via chip that I have not swapped yet - but supposedly it gives better stick performance. I just ain't used to updating power tools with software and the stick settings seem OK to me as-is. We'll see. But that's the future: customization for every process and every welder.

Also, a lot of new folks are getting into using welders. No reason an app won't help them figure it all out.

The app is handy to have in your pocket instead of running upstairs to a PC. I know most of the settings I want anyway, without it, but still doesn't hurt to look at to confirm.. I ain't getting any younger.:)

There's a generation, it seems, that it if isn't on an app, it doesn't exist in their reality. Give Miller credit for understanding that's a segment of the market they are selling to.

I pre-date the internet and had a B/W TV as a kid. Cable was 10 channels and came later with a funny box tethered to the TV via a thick wire. I changed volume by getting off the couch and turning a knob, and to this day remember how to move the rabbit ears depending on the weather that day. The VCR was a new invention that didn't enter my life until High School.

I appreciate the attempts Miller is making.
