50F currently. Cloudy day and some very light rain this evening, maybe more overnight. This is good, gently sprinkling the grass seed I put down. Mid-60's and sunny tomorrow.

Sharon and Sira are off to a dog show today and tomorrow. She is meeting our younger son and DIL for supper tonight, so I'll get some family news--eventually. Milos and I are 'left behind'. LOL

A red fox has been hanging around the house the past couple months. Doesn't seem too worried about our presence. Yesterday it was sitting about 100' feet away on the driveway watching Sira take nap in the yard. No worries, Sira is inside a fence and she outweighs the fox by about 80 pounds.

This morning the fox was chowing down on apple drops under a tree at the edge of the yard. We usually have foxes around but I've not seen one that confident in broad daylight. It looks very healthy. I think if we didn't have dogs, I could half tame that fox with some food bribes. Sharon found some YouTubes of foxes playing with dog's toys in people's yards while their dogs were inside, so apparently this is not uncommon fox behavior.

57F @ 20:00 ...

Just had dinner ... the pork and sauerkraut didn't turn out as the wife had hoped ... it was edible, just not all that tasty. The mashed potatoes slathered in butter helped though ...

The sun finally made an appearance this afternoon ... up until then I had stayed inside cutting metal on the bandsaw ... got most of the stock needed (and that I have) for the grapple cut. Need another stick of 2" x 1/4" flat and and about 14" of 1" solid rod ... and about 3' of 3" x 3" angle ... had enough 3" x 1/2" ... even had some left over.

Needed some metal to cover the front side of the towers for the upper jaw (hose protection mainly) ... found 4 pieces that were brackets on the shipping crate for the Tool Gypsy wood chipper that should work perfectly - once I remove some angle that's welded on them ... they're in the acid bath right now to strip the paint:

After the sun came out I headed outside and finished cleaning up an 8' piece of 3" x 1 1/2" x 3/16" rectangular tube ... ground off the rest of the weld and the remaining pieces of what had been welded to it and then hit it with the wire cup brush to remove the heavy rust. Will coat it with some phosphoric acid when I head back up in a bit.

The cleaned up one and it's (uncleaned) mate from the other side:

Also worked on a piece (<6' ?) of 3" x 2" x 3/16" rectangular tube which will be one of the cross beams for the saw horses ... same deal ... old welds and some 1/4" plate cut/ground of it and then wire brushed ... it's not quite done yet ... but close.

With the sun out it actually felt pretty warm, although the high was only 60F ...

Headed back up in a few ... have a few angle cuts to make and then it's on to punching holes in metal ...

Hope everyone had a good day.

Good evening! Wow what a day, it never got above 65˚. Here is a wake-up photo my neighbor took yesterday on her fence. Chicken snake vs blackbird (tail feathers showing). She likes snakes also so it's still around.

Chainsaw and a grinder - rough cut is done by lunchtime, pics in a few days. It is suppose to be a (very) rough looking backwoods oblong 2' cajun bowl. Don't bother to googling it, this is an original.:D

Don
Have you made any before? Pics?

I wouldn't have thought a snake would wrap itself around barb wire. I guess blackbirds don't either. :D

Interesting.

42 right now and a high of 61 today. I've got to go to work for a few hours...well, about 6 hours (which is why I'm up this early).
I started mowing yesterday after we got back from Rutland (picking up that Honda I described in an earlier post), but stopped when the rain started. I hope to finish the lawn today.

good morning Roy, well, hope you are getting serious OT.

cooler air finally got down here a bit, 66 degrees out going to 79 today in what should be an absolutely gorgeous Fall day.
I have both my next door neighbor coming over this afternoon plus my lawn mowing/landscaping guy. Both are paid firemen in the local fire company, good friends, and they will get the seriously heavy log splitter off the trailer, so maybe I can finally get my trailer back in action.

got a lot done yesterday, all the wall art work unboxed; actually can see the floors in some spots now. The front porch is just full of cardboard boxes; the guys this afternoon will take it all away and someone else will use the boxes to move.
Am missing some important small paintings; I know the packer hid them in some boxes but yet to find them. Boy the packer did a marvelous job. He was as good as the other guys were not so good. Opening boxes I could see his craftmanship; boxes within boxes, padding everywhere, just a marvelous job. And my stuff is coming out unscratched because of it.

still haven't found my pocket camera; drives me nuts, but I guess I'll have to order another one. Checked both cars carefully, nothing. I can lose things so easily...phones, keys, and now a camera. But I know somewhere it will pop out of a box. At least it wasn't an expensive camera.

Signed up for NC BlueCross on Friday, $1057 a month for just me. But next March is closing fast and I'll be quite happy to get my Medicare card. And save almost 8 thousand dollars a year. That's really an amazing number.
