We witnessed something unique for the first time ever yesterday
During the last six weeks or so hornets have built a huge nest ( 12 - 14 inches in diameter ) in a cedar tree 20 feet from our deck
Because it was 20 feet from the ground we decided to wait until winter to remove it
Well that problem resolved itself,,,Yesterday a raven appeared , It tore apart the nest with help from a second one ,removed what appeared to be a honeycomb and sat on an adjoining branch and devoured the honey or larvae from the nest
There were no mature flying hornets around to defend the nest,,maybee they leave at this time of year
An act of nature i would never have guest would happen

I had a similar problem a few years ago. I used a 12ga w/#8 shot, and that was the end of that.

ditto ... 3 weeks ago 10 feet above deck. Blew the nest out of the tree but some unhappy hornets still flying around the next day. Had to nuke them with Wasp/Hornet spray and cut limb out of tree before they finally surrendered.

Believe what you want, it works and works well. Those guys on u tube would be better served if they'd used a more open choke and smaller shot. Works good on army caterpillar nests that are too high to reach in the trees too.

We just found a large, Bald Face Hornets nest in the front yard. It is on a Catalpa tree and is kind of hidden. I have been under that tree several times with the tractor and the roll bar missed the nest by less than a couple feet. I think my only saving grace was I didn't hit the nest or the tree.

Now the wife wants that Hornets nest so she can put it up by her deer mount. Frost is just 2-3 weeks away so that will slow them down and we (really that means me) will bag the nest and seal it. Time has made my memory slip, but what chemical do you put in the bag to kill the adults and larvae? I have done this many years ago but I cannot remember what I used. I don't want to use anything harsh or something that lingers as she wants it in the living room. Thanks!
