boy Dave you are up early....oh, I know, noting new for Industry Maine...all those industrious folks!
clearly I have not had my first coffee yet, typing on a kitchen counter sitting on a bar chair; deluxe accomodations for sure. rained last night, always seems to rain here...but the day should be clear.
busy, busy day, helper comes at 8:30M, alarm people at 9am (yea! to new wireless smoke detectors that for 120 each can just be programmed into the main panel with zero wiring.)
nice to have a local fireman as a next door neighbor so if these smoke detectors ever trip the alarm, I can tell you from experience doing this myself as a volunteer that you move just a little bit faster for a neighbor...
after blowing the airbed up last night until I swore it would pop, I had a decent nights sleep.
had some reasonably good news yesterday, no structural damage under the floors, just moisture making the original wood floors buckle upwards. And why? well....when only half one's house has gutters and the rest just pools at the foundation, it's no wonder at all. The first time I saw it rain, and the water was flooding down into the perimeter gardens,I though, well, won't have to water them much. But clearly too much water and have to get it away from the house. No basement, about 3 feet of crawl space underneath. Fans? Builder comes this morning to talk about putting in an entirely new kitchen and master bathroom, both of which are unusable. The prior owners ran them to 28 years and then left, Of course in the 22-30 year range, just about everything falls apart and needs replacing. Did it all on my home in PA, at least the roof on this house is not old. Lot of work to do, going to keep me quite busy, and that is all good.
when I drove in the driveway and just stopped and smiled and said to myself, this is finally mine, well good start to a new chapter in life.
slips and falls remain a primary cause of serious injury for older folk. Takes only a split second to lose one's balance, particularly when under meds. I'm sorry to hear of the injury and may all older parents today have a wonderful day.
the demolition folk took down the small barn and left a bit of a mess. Lot of raking out and leveling, and cnecking for metal and tire poppers. The electric panel was just left there with a piece of wood attached. Going to call the electrician today and get that cleaned up and proper outside receptacle left there. Will be nice to have AC at the end of the lane, thinking xmas decorations already.
I hope I get some calls today on the house, other than the one low ball offer, which I countered reasonably. The buyers were Russian, and I will simply say politely that there is a big Russian community near/around me, and frankly they are not the most pleasant people to deal with if money is involved.
apparently they like playing the counteroffer game. I feel that they think that everyone is going to cheat them so why not beat up on the offer just for the sake of it?
So two families are taking a hard look at the home. I hope they bid it up.
actually give me a fair offer and it will go.
