63 right now...high of 80 predicted. Looks like two more days of potential rain (it's been threatening the last two day, but never materialized) ahead of us...50% probability today.

Got everything in the outbuilding rearranged so I can park the Z-turn in there. Had a heck of a time installing the loader.

good morning all. very sore back this morning from air mattress; boy I can't wait until I get a real bed here... well, coffee pot just beeped, it's time to wake up.

btw there is one zturn with a steering wheel, a Cub Cadet Tank. I also know of one touting a joystick setup.
not sure I want to be an early adopter there.

Got the coffee maker brewing. 57° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 81° with chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Same forecast for several days now. But still no rain. Today is garden pond maintenance day.
Drew, Front Mower Lawnmowers have a steering wheel. Price is more than my tractor cost with a mower and FEL.
Good Morning All.

Ron, you bet, I looked at the Kubotas and JD's with 72 mower out front. 21-22K. Just too much.
the JD X750 was the only way I could find to get diesel with a 60 mower and a steering wheel and not in a SCUT format. I have two tractors...and the Gravely pulls my garden tiller and acts like a tiny tractor. So I have very small, sub compact and compact machines; did not want a JD Series One for example and I rode on. Just about everyone buys the Series One, almost the same price. Which makes me a pleasant oddball...

oh, found the local Massey and New Holland dealer. Will stop in there just because they are close and see what their parts are like, the normal stuff that is not brand specific. With a TSC not far away, my guess is that will be my first choice for parts shopping.

so today's a green letter day, a new JD shows up at 9am. Hope they put fuel in it, haven't filled my diesel cans yet. And then if the rains don't start again; geez, another one to three inches possible today, well I might hook up my JD cart and pick up some sticks and shrub clippings I made piles of and feel like a real homeowner.

headed home early tomorrow morning. 14.5mpg pulling a trailer on the way down, expect to do better as the brand new Cummins breaks in. Pulling a 3000 pound trailer was a nothing; rated for almost ten times that much.

63F cloudy temps of low 80's.
Like Wayne and Roy waiting to see if we get mist or down pour today.

Time to take little walk about before heading to office.

66 when I left this AM. Wild weekend, the weather was not as forecast. Who would have thought that? The sky looked like it came out of the islands. Me and the wife just sat outside and did nothing for the two days. It was relaxing.

62*F. The morning fog is burning off. Headed to 80 today with 50% chance of t-storms late this afternoon.

The contractor who is pulling the stumps and cleaning up in my field project called yesterday to say he is coming here this morning. Been a bit of a wait so I'm looking forward to it. Naturally there is a decent chance of rain in the forecast all week. Like Roy, the scattered t-storms have been scattered elsewhere lately--probably focus on my lot like a laser now when it matters.

So, Drew has no taste for being a "mow by wire" early adopter? Theoretically at least, you would never leave the ground like the fly by wire planes do. What could possibly go wrong? One of my FIL's favorite old farm tales was telling of an uncle who when driving a tractor (instead of a horse team) for the first time, went through a fence yelling Whoa!

Have a good one.

65 going to 86. Dried out nicely by late afternoon yesterday, so got most of mowing done. Off to the vet now.

Drew, next time you're headed to Greenville - check out the Agri-Supply store. Big place, easy to get to on your side of Greenville.

59 degrees and partly cloudy ... real humid/wet ... I could see fog rising up off the ground in the headlight last night when I drove the Simplicity CFC 18 ZTR - which has a steering wheel BTW :D - up to the shed at 10 or 11 PM.

Got the MIG cleaned out/up the night before last ... Grabbed some mothballs when I was at the Big Orange yesterday to see if we can avoid anyone taking up residence inside in the future. The only thing that required much work was the wheels ... they had got pretty chewed up from it getting dragged around in/on gravel ... so I pulled 'em off, ran a bolt thru 'em, stuck on a flat washer and nut so they wouldn't spin on the bolt and then chucked that up in the drill press and hit 'em with a large file for the rough pass, and then used some drywall screen for the final pass. Rolls much more smoothly now.

Last night I fixed the frayed cord on the Sawzall and pulled the rubber nose cover and metal workstop off in preparation to repack the gearbox with grease ... which I also have to do with the angle grinder. So there will be a trip to the Milwaukee Service Center up by Cleveland later today to pick up the correct grease for each. Probably should grab a set of brushes for both of them if they are reasonable. Also cleaned up the framing and finish nailers.

Day before yesterday I started doing a little refurb on my Tool Gypsy bandsaw. With the shed being unheated, anything with bare metal had started getting a little crusty from the condensation and humidity that comes with the seasons:

But nothing a little sandpaper and elbow grease wouldn't handle ... along with a coating of mineral oil to see if we can avoid having to do it again any time real soon. I noticed while I was doing this the rear blade guide on the bandsaw set back quite a ways from the material being cut ... and if it wasn't for the rear backing plate/jaw in work clamp being fixed, the saw could actually cut something wider than the 6" it is rated for - at least on a straight 90 degree cut. So while I was at Home Depot today I picked up some really nice steel spacers and longer bolts for the rear jaw ... and viola ... The Super Cut mod was born:

Cutting a 7 1/2" wide piece of 1/2" plate ... which will be the mounting plate for the new stand for the bench vise I'm building ... to get it off the bench:

IMG_1377.jpg

A very mild feed rate is critical to keep it from stalling out ... but it works:

IMG_1378.jpg

Did some measuring and fitting for the SSQA build project, cut and drilled some steel for the mount for the diverter valve on the loader and got a bunch of junk cleared off/put away from the main work bench.

And the very last thing I did last night before coming back to the house was burn all the scrap/trash wood/cardboard/paper to reduce the combustibles in the building ... and it sure didn't take too long for it to get like a sauna inside.

Got rid of a couple old broken axe handles and a rake handle that was bad ... I also burned about an 1/8 can of Minwax Poly that had skinned and gelled up ... and a can of All-Purpose PVC cement that had gone south ... but was still very volatile ... which was fairly entertaining ...

I agree about Agri- Supply...I sure wish I was closer...I sure would go often...I order from their catalog on line all the time..

We have Tractor Supply Here but lots of Cigarette Smokers and their smoke just outside the door all the time...I thought most folks have quit the nasty habit...!

Good day today, no emergencies to tend to makes it a "day off" from work. I was able to get up and get some tractor time in brushhogging an old trail on the property that hasn't been cleared in about 15 years. It started life as a horse trail a couple hundred years back. About 50 years ago it was widened to access with trucks and tractors and only used for about 20 years. Then it was back to being a horse trail for about 15 years, and neglected with no use for the most recent 15.
