2320 hydraulic failure

My son was on th 2320 (2008 860 HOURS) mowing with the mmm & was going up a small incline when he lost all hydaulic funtions. Said engine revs went up & then died.

Can restart engine & it runs normal but no hyd (loader doesnt operate, no forward or reverse, steering, pto).

I didnt have much time last night to look at it but I eliminated the seat switch because it still kills engine when in gear & I got off the seat. Any ideas to look at tonight? Hoping its not the pump....

i would think first thing is check hydrostatic fluid in transmission,
if it was low, maybe going up hill it lost prime to the pump?

that would affect the loader and steering. not sure about the forward/reverse
and pto though.

The interlocks, seat, PTO clutch engage lever, and HST range neutral - all simply kill enine or prevent start. After checking fluid as Dutch445 suggests, and if that's good, then the problem sounds dire indeed . . . some sort of catastrophic failure of the hydraulic pump.

Agree with Dutch, I hope it is only low hydraulic fluid, loosing it's prime would make it speed up.

Forgot to indicate that sight glass showed fluid, if anything slightly higher than "normal" but it's not quite on level ground where I towed it to.

Perhaps it was low & lost prime. Would it create a bubble of some sort & show higher than normal in the sight glass? Guess I'll. Have dig out the tech ma

when was the last time they were changed?

My thought as well. There was a little known (unfortunately) manual update addressing how to grease the front u-joint.

You guys were spot on. Took off the mmm crawled under & reached up & could easily turn driveshaft by hand. Broken u joint on engine side. Wonder why my dealer never gave me this update? Been in there every year several times since I bought it buying fluids & parts....

My thoughts as well. Probably lost the driveshaft from the engine to the hydrostatic pump. Those shafts are at a pretty good angle and tough to get at the front joint to lubricate.

Thanks for providing that update KD. I sent an email to the dealer & included it. Service mgr called & is checking with JD to see what they'll do in light of the fact that after I bought the tractor in March of 2009 I never received the update from the dealer or JD after it was issued in December of 2010 (but they did manage to send me my owners edition hat, advertisements, and billing statements for 4 years). ��

Mgr is having it picked up tomorrow. Despite the direction in the update to "Print the page in the link below and provide to the customer as an insert to their existing operator's manual," the dealer indicated that, per their contract with JD, they let JD contact the customer directly with this level of update. He didnt know how I would have gotten this update - which is ironic because JD didnt send it to me & perhaps if they or the dealer did all of us wouldnt have this problem. It'll be interesting - stay tuned.

I don't think your experience is unique. I bought my 2320 in May 2010 and never received anything on the manual update. The only reason I knew about it was from this forum. As a result I've been greasing it once a year and keeping my fingers crossed.
