Agreed. Shame.

The article mentions how few people die from Copperhead bites but I doubt most people are bitten three times either. The last person killed because of a snake bite in my area that I know about was a VFD chief. He was driving to a Copperhead snake bite call and wrecked his car.

Sad. Just sad.

Long ago I stopped trying to understand why things happen when I read news stories where bad things happen to people. It always seems to come down to"that's not smart/reasonable/logical" and I wouldn't have done that. I hope that I never show up in one of these stories.

Wow!! Even if you had no idea what type of snake - WHY would you pick it up with your hand???

People must have to register when arriving at the park , maybe they should be given some info on the dangers that exist their.

There is something morbidly funny about that one.

"He picked it up." Uh ... I'm sorry the guy is dead and his family has lost its husband/father but ... he picked up a venomous snake.

A neighbor ran over a Copperhead on the county road through my property not far from my barn a couple years ago.
They are one of the easier snakes to identify I think but I did double check when I got home.
A co-worker camps there all the time and doesn't live that far from Sam A Baker SP.

Yeah, I don't think he knew the snake was a Copperhead. The only snake I can remember picking up as a green snake. I have an agreement with bees, wasps, hornets and snakes, basically anything that can bite me, I won't mess with you, if you won't mess with me. :D

This has worked so far, sorta. The only time I have been bitten by things that fly was when I had unintentionally messed with them. Well, the one hornet sting was undeserving. I was reading a book and doing nothing. That was an exception.

I bet the last thing he said to his kids was "I got this"

You cant fix stupid

They are fairly common around here, and I'm always cautious out in the woods. They are difficult to see in the fall because they blend in so well with the leaves. However, you just DO NOT TRY TO PICK THEM UP! Period!

Wow folks. The man died in front of his 2 children on a camping trip.

We all know how smart everyone is here ... but there is no need to trash the guy. My goodness. Say a prayer and feel for his family.

Well said! I can't begin to imagine how tragic this has been for his family, especially his children who witnessed their father's death.

Agreed.

The father was trying to spend time with his family which seems to not happen very much today. I can't believe he knew it was poisonous and that ignorance killed him on a family vacation while his family watched.
