Hey all,

I'm a long time reader of the forums here and finally took the plunge and signed up. I'm looking at getting an Kubota B series, LS G series or Mahindra 3016 in the next month. Hope to be on here long enough to help someone down the road with their purchases since this forum has done so much to help me.

Glad to be in your company

Lol, yeah I think you may be thinking of Chino which is pretty close to your cousin. As mfreund mentioned, that's about 8 hours sound of Chico. I'm up in Northern California If you've ever had a Sierra Nevada pale ale, Chico is where the brewery is.

The Chino thing happens to me a lot though.

Welcome to TBN. Join the fun.

If you're interested in Mahindra check out Dave's Tractors in Red Bluff. Dave is my dealer--one super guy.

Good luck.

Mfreund, no offense taken. California is a big state.

Flusher, thanks for the tip. I actually checked Dave's out. Great folks and the Mahindra 3016 is a nice tractor. But for the $$$ I just can't beat the prices on the LS G series at Lane Tractor Sales in Los Molinos.

Downsizingnow48,

I commute to work in Roseville so I'm near Sacramento pretty regularly. We've talked about moving closer to work but we love our spread here and wouldn't be able to get as much for the money down there.

It's nice to meet you all and thanks for the welcome wagon :)

Lane has really expanded the past few years after becoming an LS dealer. I remember when he had a small operation in the little service station across the road from his present location. Bought a used Yanmar RS1200 rototiller from him about 10 years ago when he was in the grey market tractor business.

That drives a question I've been wanting to ask. How's Lane Tractor sales in your opinion, and within the community there? Being in Chico, we are far enough away to not hear anything one way or the other. I like the LS tractor, just haven't been able to find reviews on them anywhere.

Don't know--haven't bought anything from Lane except that rototiller. Never met anyone who bought a tractor from Lane. Don't know anyone around here who owns an LS tractor. Before they became an LS dealer Lane sold Montana tractors. I wonder if Angie's list reviews tractor dealers:eek:

Hey Flusher,

After talking to you here, I revisited Dave's Tractor and had a nice chat with Lee. The 3016 HST is a very nice tractor with plenty of creature comforts and not much more than the spartan G series LS. Do you know much about the FEL though? I don't doubt it's a work horse but it's pretty light weight in its construction compared to the LS equivalent. I really liked the tractor but am a little concerned about tearing that bucket up. With only 2 year warranty on the FEL I don't want to be spending my weekends welding up the corners.

You have to do a lot of serious, heavy work to wear out an FEL. Or abuse it. It's not meant to be a bulldozer blade that you jam into virgin soil. It's intended use is to scoop loose material. That said, you can attach a tooth bar to the bottom lip of the bucket to do moderate digging. For example, when I was installing walkways around my new house about 10 years ago, I had a 2005 Kubota B7510HST (21 hp engine, 17 hp pto, 4WD, power steering) with the LA302 FEL (4-ft wide bucket, 800 lb lift to about 7 ft height). I installed a $150 tooth bar and dug 4-ft wide trenches for paver block walkways. No problem with the FEL, which was a pretty lightweight unit.

Where you get into trouble is using the FEL to handle unbalanced loads. YOu can twist the FEL arms out of position or tip the tractor or both if you're not careful.

Hope this helps.

Good luck
