Hello my name is Chuck I live in Warrenton Mo. I currently have a L3130, box blade, rear grader blade, and fel with tooth bar. Im in the process of moving left over topsoil around my 5ac property. Im running into a issue, when i try to blend the new fill into the existing my box blade is clogging with grass debris. The box blade seems to work great everywhere except areas with grass. Im ending up with large pile of dirt and grass mixed together. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time
Chuck

That will do the job. Ill call around about renting one. Too bad the price tag is so steep. That would be a nice tool to own.

Thanks Chuck

A PTO driven over seeder will do it in one pass. But they are expensive and hard to find.

No luck with the harley rake. I cant find a rental thats for a tractor. The skid steer version is available but that isnt ideal. Will a landscape rake do anything? I may just have to use a stiff tine hand rake and do it all manually.

Thanks Chuck

I'm in Warrenton myself. If you have a loader on your tractor and want to try a Ratchet Rake send me a PM and we'll hook up. I'm South of town on U.

I missed the question on first pass. I thought he was trying to remove attached grass. Now after reading your reply and going back to original post I believe you have the correct answer. I've owned a landscape rake and no I don't think it will pick out the grass from the dirt as well as the RatchetRake will. The RatchetRake is my most used implement for finishing off yard areas and make them ready to seed.

Chuck does have a loader on his tractor, so perhaps the ratchet rake would help. He's sure not going to hurt it any!

Ya know, I have a RachetRake and I like how it works for removing brush and how easy it was to tear down honeysuckle. But I tried to use it on some lawn last year and was actually fairly disappointed in it. I only have a BX & turfs all around, but driving forward, if I put the bucket down with some pressure, I'd spin out, if I didn't have any pressure, it would scratch it up, but never really pull it loose. I went over the area a dozen times, in all 4 directions. I didn't try backing up, but it seems that would put way more pressure on my curl cylinder.

To smooth the rock on my drive I put the bucket down but pretty flat so the curl cylinders are barely extended and use reverse. It's generally best, with a small tractor at least, to not put too much pressure on the curl cylinders. If they bend it's quite expensive I'm told. Driving forwards is not quite the issue as the cylinders are in tension.

I almost always lay the bucket down, tilt the front edge down and back drag letting the fine teeth of the RatchetRake sift thru the dirt and filter out the "stuff". Have been doing so for 11 years with different Kubota tractors even without the RatchetRake. May pay the price one day but so far never had a problem.

Hmm. Maybe the teeth tend to dig in a little better that way than the flat bucket. I have some dog patches my wife wants me to fix this year.

It's a handy device and well built. I bought mine at Tractor Supply in Troy. You'll love it.

Thats who I ordered mine through also. Do you think it will work well for ripping up grass? I have multiple chores that the rake will be great for but I haven't heard of using it on grass. This grass it tough stuff.

Maybe set the teeth on your boxblade to just deep enough to dig below the grass level and make several passes then with the front edge of the front bucket drive forward and see if you can peel the grass layer off coming across the rips the boxblade teeth have made in the grass. You have the equipment so give it a try.
