What's your dog's name and how did you name it?

I had a basenji mix named Arizona called her Zona, and a Pit/Chow named Sedona (to go with Arizona). Had to put them both down in November.
The house was just too quiet so we ended up getting
Rory(female) the red goldendoodle. Rorys name comes from Dr Who he is the man who waited (very loyal) and the main character in Gilmore Girls was named Rory.
She has a few nicknames, Rory Roo because she jumps around like a kangaroo, and LandShark because she eats everything....although my daughter thought we were calling her LambShark, which is funny because her hair looks like a lambs.

Our current dog is a female Chihuahua. We got her when she was a tiny little thing, about 10 weeks old. The breeder said she had what "looked" like a double hernia, so she was half priced compared to her litter mates. Their vet had said she'd likely grow out of it, but probably shouldn't be used for breeding (which was OK since we planned to have her neutered as soon as she was old enough). And perhaps an even more deciding reason we (well, my wife) picked her was because she was the pup that immediately came to my wife when we walked up to the pen.

On the way home, my wife asks, "What are we doing to name her?" I jokingly said, "How about Dee for "defective"? And the name stuck.:laughing:

Now Dee's eight and a half years old, and the only dog I've ever known that never learned to growl or snarl; never once. And she loves everyone; just looking for new friends to play with. But she can sure bark, and loud! If she sees or hears anyone come in the yard, especially if the doorbell rings, she just goes berserk trying to get at that person(s). But it's only to see if they're a new friend.

Even if you hurt her, she will not bite; only try to get away.

The dog that goes everywhere with me has the name Farmcall. He was rescued from the road when he was about 8 w/o. That was before we moved to the farm, i would call him and he would be ready to ride. Since we have moved to the farm he has become famous and attained a title. He is known as "The Sultan of Second Branch.

The Border Collie Golden Retriever cross that lives here my step son (his dog) named 'Katie'. I call her 'Sooner'. She used to go downstairs to the basement and one day I found a mountain of DooDoo on the floor. Another day she peed a lake upstairs. I might add she was 8 weeks old at the time. I call her Sooner, she answers to it, all is good. The stepson cringes when I call her.

I recall my Dad saying that his dog was a Sooner dog; I asked him what he meant by that, and he said "because he would sooner poop in the house than go outside". Rodney Dangerfield once related the story of how he named his dog...seemed he named her "Egypt" because of all the little pyramids she kept leaving around the house.

Funny you should ask. I just picked up a rescue dog who is a mastiff/shepherd mix. He's a neutered male approx. 9 months old and can be quite a handfull at times. So, I named him Jones after Jamie Foxxes character in the movie Horrible Bosses. That's right, I named my dog MF Jones.

It has worked out perfectly as I have heard my wife call him by his full name more than a couple of times.

We used to have a lab female named Millie (it is derived from Czech language meaning nice or lovable). She was shot by hunters during deer season few years back. So we got another lab and named her Lillie. I don't know what we will name next dog but it will be something that rhymes with Millie, Lillie I suppose.

We didn't name any of our dogs but carried on their kennel names.

Yea, I figure they have enough changes in their life without changing their kennel names. Our racer got fired from her first adoption because she is a total alpha and installed herself as queen over the other dogs in her new (temporary) home. The initial adopters didn't appreciate her royalty. :laughing:

A Chesapeake Bay retriever puppy recently joined our family. We named her Coco, short for Coconino, a buff colored sandstone layer in the Grand Canyon and Utah. It is also the name of a beautiful point on the north rim partially down the North Kaibab Trail. She will be similarly colored (a color called light deadgrass).
