Snake Medicine

I see out of stock and no back order which is understandable at $1.42 per round. That is more in line with a high caliber rifle match round.
For a snake gun, I would get the Judge pistol in 45 long colt and shoot .410 shells in it. Those shot shells I think are basically for revolvers rather than semi-autos and even if you found them, they may not feed or cycle well in a semi-auto.

Good catch on revolver or semi-auto loads. I never knew the difference until I was trying to buy 45 loads for my father in laws S&W Governor. A sales person walked by as I was shopping and told him I needed 45 rounds and he asked which kind. Wheel or semi auto loads? Ugh, what? I was going to buy the wrong load...

A trick I learned a long time ago with shovel is if you can scope some dirt and shove it in there face do it then whack em behind head. Also we know a coiled snake can lunge and one that's stretched out can only slither towards you. :D

:snake:I uses the same type of shot as nikdfish but in 9mm and only had to use them once. I was checking on one of my trail cams and when I turned around to walk off a rattle snake was only 3 feet away coiled up. This would be the first time I have seen one not rattle and slowly removed my pistol and dealt with him.

Now I don't go out of my way to shoot them because rattle snakes will let me know where they are or if in my wood piles. It's those darn copperheads I don't care for near my creeks.

Gary those will feed fine in a semi-auto.. I know of no .40 S&W revolvers.. not that they may not exist, but you will notice that .40 S&W is a rimless cartridge designed for semi-auto's. I understand the judge with a .410 shell in it with small shot makes a fine snake deterrent. And yes the .40 cartridges are expensive, but just how many snakes were we planning to dispatch?:).. I would think it would be a sometimes thing, in fact If I felt I was being invaded by venomous snakes, I believe I would go around with the 12 gauge as a constant companion:D

A rule of thumb, is rimmed rounds go in revolvers, and rimless rounds to in semi-auto's. But like all rules of "thumb".. there are exceptions. But when you get down to these kind of details you should be educated enough to know about these few exemptions. For instance there are one or two 9mm parabellum revolvers that are made to take the rimless 9mm semi-auto rounds. There were revolvers that could take .45acp rimless rounds with the aid of half moon or full moon clips. and I can think of at least one old obscure semi-auto that uses 38 special rimmed cartridges, and of course the Automags of various permutations that use the rimmed .44Magnum normally a revolver cartridge. Of course there is the ubiquitous .22LR which is rimmed, which fit rifles, pistols and revolvers. Of course there custom guns that can be made to chamber whatever you want.. but still the rule of thumb will serve the average person well.

Our female Boston came in one day with the side of her head about the size of a baseball. We're thinking a wasp got her. She hated them as much as I do :)

I noticed your avatar right away; we love our Bostons; have had them since the late '50's. Our latest little fatty is named Lucy Lu. She was supposed to get a companion who was to be named Ricky, but so far Rickey has failed to materialize.

So I learned when trying to purchase the 45 ammo. The Governor that I was buying the 45 ammo for has the clips for the rimless rounds. All I use now is a 40 S&W Ruger semi-auto for packing in the mountains. The Governor is too large for packing up there. Now if I could get my wife to pack it.....:cloud9:

OK, that give me the keeps.....

All kidding aside.....we use to cut their heads off about three inches back.....slice open their belly and clean them.....skin them and then filet the meat (otherwise too many fine bones). Not to sound funny......the meat tasted like chicken. Like I said....very tasty. Not meant to creep you out.

I'll tell y'all a dog/snake story: once upon a time... I had a dog, mongrel with some shepherd in him. Neighbor horseman came riding by noticed me dog and commented he will make a good snake dog. Wha's that? I asked. A dog that'll catch and kill snakes. Well, some time later on one late May afternoon on a short walk we saw a copperhead cross our road. Me dog went after him and was bit on his nose. Swoll up bad, but was okay. After that, he would run around to the back of a snake, grab it quick and shake the rascal until he killed it. He was never bitten again by ary snake. The End.

Yep. I know. All is good. God didn't give them legs for a reason....I guess they are easy to catch? Wouldn't know as I'm always going in the opposite direction

Citydude, the rascals ain't so easy to catch. Slithering all over the place, trying to crawl up ye arm or wrap around ye hind legs. Reminds me of another snake story... It'll have to wait until another day and another time. But, at a summer camp several years ago, bunch of old boys decided to see who could catch the first snake of the season. Well, one old boy saw one slither down a stump hole...

Not hard to catch.....we'd take baby rattles out there with us.....we'd sit up on a rock and shake the heck out of em......the rattle snakes would come a slithering.......thinkin we was their momma's. God honest truth!
