The media is having a field day blaming engineering and management but it all starts at the top with the board of directors and wall street investors that demand double digit returns and don't care how they get there. That is why bean counters get hired. They cut and hack to drive down cost and once they've beaten engineering and suppliers until they scream uncle they beat them some more. Then they start threatening jobs and plant closures. I think many of us have seen this way of doing business and it makes for a very stressful environment. Unfortunately in the end the consumer pays the price.
oh, you mean the union. HS

The finance people were saying that GM will be in a better position in the long run than Ford taking the Dept of Energy money. Only the future will tell. If the Ecoboost engines keep blowing up, that might be a issue for Ford.

Keep blowing up?

CAC collects condensation, engine sucks in too much water at one time, hydro locks, BOOM.

While I am sure this has happened it's not common. The Eco Boost accounts for 65% of F150 sales since 2011 according to Truck Trend Magazine. I have not read of it being wide spread. Nor nearly as big of a issue as GM 5.3L oil consumption issues.

GM isn't going anywhere. We the taxpayers will bail them out again. No big deal. The hearings are a simple formality. Same thing going on with the Bengazi hearings. No big deal.....

Yeah James, my heart isn't in this because I've not suffered a loss. But, with that said, the first time my vehicle shut itself off accidently I would have cleaned off the key ring, if that was the cause. The second time, I would have determined the new cause and created a remedy. If I couldn't live with the piece of baling wire that I deemed the remedy tied to the key in the run position, I would have traded the POS and moved on. It would have never entered my mind to blame GM and sue. Money will not undo this. Makes me wonder, how many families that lost members have taken action to remedy the problem.

^^^ Look up ^^^

Well I did find this:

Sadly, as we start breaking down the deaths in this ignition switch recall we are learning the circumstances around these accidents are strikingly similar. Drunken driving by young drivers in small cars is becoming a common denominator on more than a couple of these ignition switch recall accidents.

It is interesting that you blame the bean counters for doing a cost benefit analysis on producing cars. All products have a financial analysis performed and compromises are made considering cost versus quality versus safety versus styling. We can argue that but for a 57 cent part lives would be saved". It is noble and easy to become indignant at someone who made the decision not to include the part but a vehicle is made up a thousands of parts (or more). If each on cost 10 cents more we wouldn't buy the product. How many times have you decided to buy one product over another because it is cheaper by $200? I see posts on these forums all the time that show people are very price sensitive. When it comes to safety how many times does a manufacturer install a safety device and we ignore it or defeat it? Does everyone buy a rated bolt or do they use on in their coffee can to save a couple pennies? Anyone override their kill switch? Not putting up the ROPS? Not wearing a seat belt? Removed a guard from a piece of equipment? Did everyone who bought a car buy one with 4 wheel disc brakes (safer than drum), did everyone buy anti-lock brakes? Blind spot indicators? Did you buy the safest rated car? Why not? No, we looked at the cost, quality, function, styling, and decided we would buy some safety features and not others (I guess we all have some bean counter in us). Milton Friedman gave a great talk on this very subject. What we are complaining about isn't 57 cents for a life, it is how much should we spend on a life, $100? 1,000? $1,000,000? We all make these decisions daily but become enraged when someone else engages in the same behavior. Check out Friedman's talk with an emotional college student who is arguing emotion rather than economics.

To blame this on having too many keys on hour key ring is typical gm bull<**#. I could probably go put 30# 's of keys on my tacomas ignition and i guarantee it wont shut down lol!

It won't shut off but the frame will rot through leaving you truckless beside the salt mine. Seen it many times.

Fred, Toyota... no better than any engineered POS

I agree but I only keep the necessary keys on mine to protect the dash and my leg. With a bunch of keys it scrapes the crap out of the dash and my leg when in my pants pocket.
