Hi everyone I am trying to let everyone know about a scam that I got sucked into. It's running on Kijiji, and craigslist maybe even eBay. It's a 2004 John Deere 4310. Price 4700 I know it's an unreal price but I fell for it. The seller directs you to a website Cardwell & Carson Consignment where u register and seems like a legitimate website but upon further inspection turns out to be completely fake. I found this out after I sent money. So I got screwed but I'm trying to give warning to others not to fall for this and to get the work out that
Cardwell & Carson Consignment is fake. I have let Kijiji , eBay, FBI, RCMP, aswell as numerous other overseas investigators involved which is looking good so far. Thanks for reading and never trust anyone.

I saw this add on Kijiji today but it was already gone. I believe it was listed out of Edmonton area of Alberta. It was sure an awesome deal but I just figured it was somebody unloading quick due to hard times. I'm thinking there are enough good guys on TBN that would be happy to go check things out for you before you send money. Just a thought.

Sorry you got taken. These scammers are always on CL. Always with a new looking machine (or nearly so for its age) and lots of implements. Flag every one of them you see. They do the same thing with gator type utility vehicles and nicer Jeep GJ and the like. Mostly post in the farm and garden section.

I'm in the market too and have come across a few deals like this, but my inquiries were never returned. I'd rather dig really deep and investigate then find out it's fake rather than pass it by and it be legit.

Sorry to hear you found out the hard way.

Claym is there any way of having the payment stopped?

They've been running these for years now. Never send money for something you can't go see locally.

If it is a "too good to be true" price.....It is!!

Buddy of mine called me today, all excited about a JD Gator his wife was buying him. We talked about it a few minutes, and he mentioned "shipping was included" in the price ( and it was supposed to be coming from a town about 45 minutes from us ), and then said something about a "consignment" company.

WHOA.....I got more details. He was getting ready to go to the bank to have them send a check to some international bank someplace...

"Bill.....are you nuts.....you're paying sight unseen for a used machine that is supposed to be located only 45 min drive from here ???"

Yeah....it was the same scam. And this guy is a well educated tax preparer. His wife, who was buying it, is an RN.

AND she had emailed them scanned copy of her driver's license, they claimed they needed to assure them they were dealing with a legitimate person ( ahahahaaaaaa ) . So now they have her DL number, date of birth, full name and social security number ( it's on the license in TN unless you specifically opt out ).

Yeah....I told her. You're getting ready to be hit with a world of identity theft as well as nearly loosing 5 grand. The scam that keeps on giving.

Greed will play to a scammer every time. Folks think they are getting a deal because the seller either doesn't know the value or is on really hard times and will eagerly take advantage of them. The scammers rely on human weaknesses to make the scam work.

There is no such thing as a free lunch AND if it sounds too good to be true, IT IS. Even if you deal in person and see the product, if it is too cheap, then it is something major wrong with it or it is stolen. Buyer beware and never buy anything site unseen. Notify the local law enforcement if you suspect an item is stolen and let them run it to verify ownership and not a scam.

Although I mostly agree that "if it sounds to good to be true, it is", there are times where it is false. Sometimes, you are just in the right place at the right time.

A deal can be tempting that's for sure, but being in the right place at the right time nowadays usually has to mean physically being in said right place with said deal directly in front of you. Da$@ scammers!

When I see those types of ads on Kijiji, some big ticket item, for a ridiculous price, I generally automatically report it to Kijiji, although occasionally I will play their game and email back and forth trying to get more info and then finally tell them that All the law enforcement agencies have been notified including Interpol. and I have sent their email address to them all..... Boredom is a terrible thing to waste... How can it hurt to play their silly little reindeer game back at them? But NEVER NEVER EVER disclose any personal info to them!!

Cheers

Exactly! I do the same with telephone marketers. I make it a game to be as stupid as I can and keep them on the line as long as possible. If every citizen they called kept them on the line for 1/2 hour instead of hanging up, they'd only make 16 calls a day. And seeing how they probably have to make a 1000 calls to find that one sucker to make their industry profitable, their whole system would collapse and the world would be rid of tele-marketers! Genius!

I'm guilty of the occasional harass the telemarketer from time to time.

The best thing I've done to a telemarketer is listen politely to their bs and when we get to the money part I give them my lawyers number. I tell them that before we can do any more business they have to leave a security deposit with my lawyer. The amount is double what they are asking for. Usually all I hear is a click and that's the end of the conversation. :)
