I think there's a little woodpecker right on the feeder in that first picture too. It looks like a downy woodpecker instead of a red-headed woodpecker, but it might be a juvenile red-head.

Not quite:D
That is a "Red Bellied Woodpecker" We have 2 pair of them.
We have lots of Downy woodpeckers. They are small black and white with red on heads.
They all spend a lot of time eating suet from the grocery that we hang from a feeder pole above where
I pictured the Dove and Cardinal earlier.
In the summer the Red Bellied woodpeckers stay in the orchard getting first choice on the fruit.
but there is plenty for all. We are still eating fresh apples from last fall's picking and have a lot in the freezer for pie and cobbler.
Darn, I'm making myself hungry.

Red bellied WP is what it looks like, come to our feeder quite often and seem to tolerate us in the yard very well.

Here is the Red Bellied shot full size.
I am shooting through a double insulated glass door so
it is not as clear as it would be without the glass in the way.
Too cold to hide in the bush today:D

Woodpeckers are easy to spot because of the way they cling instead of perch. They look funny sometimes with other birds on the feeder.

I figured it wouldn't too bright to get out today, but we wanted a few things from Sam's Club & Walmart, and we were both getting a little cabin fever, so . . . . we went to Lewisville and the roads were no problem at all at 10 a.m. But of course I had recently thoroughly cleaned the garage floor and the car, but both are filthy again now.

Eddie, anytime the lady of the house wants to "play pretend" it can get interesting:laughing: I expected to loose power too, but we dodged that one. Still cold and wind chills in the single digits. You folks East of us caught more of the "train" effect.

Dennis, I just thought it was like all the "Blue Northers" that I've seen all my life. But your expression was more like it. It was like a freight train when it hit. I have never seen freezing rain and sleet come down so hard, and with lots and lots of thunder. We usually don't hear thunder till spring, but it had the sound of a train too.

I remember well the ice storm we had in Dallas New Years Eve 1978 and it was the worst I have seen till this one. It's 1440 hours and it's finally 28* and I guess that's going to be the high today.

Just got a call from my salesman whose order I was going to pick up today-- The truck won't be running tomorrow either and it will be Wed before it arrives. Luckily the timing won't put me in a bind.

OK,OK,OK, Farmgirl, I'm really ready for warm weather. Enough is enough.

Charlie

Yep ... My vote goes to Farmgirl !!! ENOUGH!!!

Just layer a couple taters wrapped in foil into the hot fire coals for "baked taters"

I think it will work?

Charlie, I'm betting it isn't worth it, at least early, already one fella killed in the metro after getting stuck on a bridge.

Bird, Springtown ISD and Weatherford College have a 2hr delay, but I bet they end up canceling. We didnt get as much ice/sleet as the metro-mess I dont think, about 1/4" in volume, precept amount probably around .03

It's not worth it. I am taking a floating holiday tonight cause it is suppose to freeze and rain here in the morning and maybe even at Hobby Airport. I am not going to try 60 miles in ice. Like the stranded folks I am seeing right now on the news.........stuck out on I-45 near Corsicana.
hugs, Brandi

No kidding, may need to get used to Vodka if we don't get an election soon!

Oh how I would like to open it to a discussion ... BUT... Them again I'm not even a fan of the friendly politics or the front porch!!! So ... I'll leave things as they are!!
