Where do you carry your gun on your tractor?

We're talking what getting within 100 yards? 75 yards? 50 yards?
I'm a reasonable shot but if I hit what I want at 50 yards with a pistol it's pure luck.

What I'd do is rig up a hard shell case on the fender or the hood.
It'd cut down on any cleaning because of messy terrain business and it'd protect the weapon and still be handy.

I always carry a handgun when I'm in the woods, on or off the tractor.. I own a variety of handguns. My current favorite is the S&W SW9VE in 9MM. I carry it in a Bianchi Accumold belt holster with two extra magazines. That gives me a total of 49 rounds. Since I carry extra ammo, I do a lot of plinking. I have found the SW9VE is a lot of fun to shoot, totally reliable and very inexpensive.

I also keep a shotgun in my truck that I would get If I had enough time. I've had problems with thieves, vandals and trespassers. I would much prefer to call the sheriff, if I have time.

I'm not worried about snakes, I've never seen one that would not get out of your way if it had the chance. Now, feral or stray dogs are a different matter.

I've hunted small game at the end of the day, feral dogs, hogs etc. depending on your area. I've even set up a few targets and done a bit of plinking.

For many of us with concealed carry permits, we see no reason not to just because we are on a tractor. I carried a gun on my job and for a few years only carried in situations in which I thought there was a possibility I might need it. Then one day, I desperately need my gun and I couldn't get to it because I left it in my car.

I realized that I was not clairvoyant and the only way to be sure to be armed was to always carry and did from that day forward. I figure the worst case scenario is I will carry a gun for no good reason the rest of my life; no real loss.

I accept that the likelihood of ever needing it for defense against a person is really really low, but it is a risk I am not willing to take.

Porcupines, scaring away coyotes showing interest in my sheep (though I've never hit one with a sidearm as they're cautious), fishers, and the occasional delusional raccoon, skunk or fox in this rabies-prone area.
