Although NOT that 'later model', my 1961 Morris Oxford was Positive ground as was my 1955 Packard. Both of them 12 volt systems.

You're correct I wouldn't consider your 1961 Morris Oxford or '55 Packard late models by any stretch of the imagination!!!!!!!!!!!

The military humvee has a 24v negative ground system AND an isolated 12V system (uses one of the pair of 12v batteries hooked in series to make 24V)
Looks like a 1973 Mack semi truck was available as positive ground: 12V positive ground? - IH Trucks - Red Power Magazine Community
Also, the Cat 955 Traxcavator (made in the 50s-60s and possibly into the 70s) had some models which were positive ground.

Whoopie. I've had the Snap-On charger for 28 years and it still works exactly as designed and has always done it's job flawlessly. Doubt I need a 'new one'.

Using the word 'every' makes it sounds as if the standard has to undergo extensive modification to cover 'every oddball or antiquated grounding possibility' which is clearly false and misleading.
