I have a JD 1120 and have been putting regular hydraulic oil in it, I just received the owners manual and it states to use transmision hydraulic oil. Can the two be mixed or should I dump the oil in it and replace it with the transmisiom hudraulic. Also could I have caused damage to the trany using reguler hydraulic oil.
Thanks

What brand and viscosity of regular hydraulic oil?

Transmission hydraulic oil is kinda vague, exactly what does the manual say to use?

Not likely to have done any damage.

You need hyd oil that is recommended for wet disc brakes. If you use just plain hyd oil the brake pads can deteriorate. Also water in the oil can cause brake pad deterioration. Correct oil is JD Hy-Gard or its equivalent. If you drain hyd oil which I recommend it would be a very good time to check trans sump screen(parts key #22).

Following the manual of a 40 year old tractor can be difficult because oils change, new additive packages are developed, and I don't believe most companies go back and update. Often it is find out what the equivalent tractor made today uses. Not sure if JDM J20 spec was in effect when your tractor was built. It might be likely the hydraulic oil you have been using meets the J20 spec - they often do. Its likely the oil you used didn't create any problems.

Hydraulic-Transmission oil has to be wet clutch compatible. Plus the hydraulic-transmission oil must have the high pressure point additives to keep the ring and pinon from galling.
1-800-522-7448 and the nice folks will send you a crisp new manual.

mguitard stated in his first sentence that he had an "operators(OWNERS) manual".:drink:
