Interesting, I've had similar experience with a L3130. In med range going up a steep hill with loader and counter weight if I operated the loader the tractor would die in a cloud of black smoke. And I mean die!

I agree. I didn't mean that my tractor nearly stalled; it never came close to stalling and ground speed barely slowed. Something doesn't seem right if your tractor dies that way. Although I was reading a thread the other day about DK40/45 owners stalling their tractors while using the loader and NO I'M NOT KNOCKING KIOTI TRACTORS! I just didn't know it was possible to stall a tractor using hydraulics -- I figured the relief would kick in and save the day before that would happen

Just weird to me. I've never had a tractor bog down using hydraulics, 3 Kubotas & a large Case/David Brown. But I've also never had a HST???

Just weird to me. I've never had a tractor bog down using hydraulics, 3 Kubotas & a large Case/David Brown. But I've also never had a HST???

Don't forget that my L3130 with loader and 1300# of weight on the 3pt weighs in around 7000#. That is a lot of weight for 31hp, and add going up a steep grade. I am not surprised at all that it died in a cloud of smoke. That is why I traded up to the L5740. Weighing even more going up the same grade in high range and it will power right on over. Nothing like an extra 30hp!!

I think Fred will be back. He's just busy making a living and hasn't gotten back to the turbo build. I'm all for him and am anxious to see the results.

So true. One of the biggest things I noticed about going from the 4240 to the 5740 was going up a hill in high range. The 4240 would drop right off on the power and slow right down. The same steep hill with the 5740 and it actually holds its speed flat out. I love the extra pto hp too.

That is interesting. I would not have thought that. Makes me glad I sprung for the 3540 over the 3240. Not that I have ever had it in high range.

I still think our Fred needs to operate somebody else's tractor of the same model. Pretty certain Fred has a factory dud or he can't drive.

Fred has his mind set on adding a turbo. At this point I say support him in his decision and watch the build. Who knows, maybe this will be something more of us will want to do. If he still has a problem after installing the turbo then we can him fix it.
