..then I checked the photo again and saw it had the cylinders on the inside of the grapple arms...........not in the middle. Too much bending forces in this configuation. It really was a lite duty grapple.
hugs, Brandi

Brandi, can you find a pic of what you are describing that has too much bending forces? Also how wide should the grapple jaws open? Thanks.

33 degrees this morning, forecast to go to 36, and instead it stayed at 33 until this afternoon when it went down to 32. I think that forecast of 36 for a high today and 35 for a low tonight is gonna miss the mark a bit.

The high of 36 was at midnight, bird! Been dropping since.

74 degrees at 4:30 am and was down to 44 degrees by 6:30 am. Got all the way up to 45 this afternoon but on the way back down now. Windy all day.

You're right. I didn't check far enough; just accustomed to the high being in the afternoon.

You just didn't get up early enough to enjoy the high temp of the day! :)

And if I wanted weather like this, I'd live someplace else!!!!

It's 52 here and on the way to 46.. Think I will build a fire outside, a drink for the insides then set and watch the leaves fall from the trees.. Hope it not to much excitement for me.. Lou

The other thread was talking about a big plane on a short runway...so I remembered this and I'm sure Lou does too.

A Boeing 727 hijacked, landed at a former runway in Lake Jackson 5000 foot long. Back in '72. Waaaaay before Bindian and FG were around. :)

40 years later: The day a 727 landed at Lake Jackson - Bayou City History

I remember my uncle said they had it there for a long time removing seats and almost anything it didn't have to have to fly. Just so they could get it out of there. Probably waited for a 35 mph sea breeze headwind if they could too.

I do remember it Kyle.. My wife, I and our two sons at the time watched it take off.. We live across the street from the airport.. Now where that airport was is housing addition, Lowes, Home depot, Wal mart supper center and about twenty other businesses.. I was twenty five at the time.. Lou

Don,
I have just the photo:) to show you the style grapple not to get, but TBN is having problems opening the "manage attachment" window.:( It has two cylinders placed on the inside of each grapple "arm" that could twist under the right circumstances.

Bottom line, if you buy a grapple with two cylinders that can swing open and closed independently (and can clamp down on two different sized objects), be sure the cylinder on each grapple "arm" is mounted in the center of that arm between the pivot mounts and not over the inside pivot mount of that arm.

But for a 60 inch grapple, you may want just one cylinder. You can buy either from www.palletforks.com

That plane could have taken off without removing anything. But not legally. The weight was decreased for FAA balanced field length.........what means the runway has to be X amount long for a certain weight to get X distance down the runway, abort takeoff, and stop before going off the end of the pavement.

Am I right about the wording for balanced field length, FG?

Yep, you are correct. Predicated on V1, which is the speed at which, no matter what happens, you are commited to take off.

Brandi,
Since the final destination was only 10 miles away wouldn't you think they would unload the plane as much as possible and transport any cargo they could by truck?

I have icicles hanging from tree limbs. It is a light freezing rain here. Luckily, with the warm temps of yesterday, pavement isn't freezing yet, but grass is becoming white.

Now honestly, wouldn't y'all much prefer weather like that in the photo, to the mess we are getting now? Come on, Springtime!

Spring and early summer are my favorite time of the year. I love to see everything coming back to life turning green, flowers blooming, and beautiful women, such as you, not running around all
bundled up in heavy coats.
