Welcome to the forum. Are you satisfied with the noise your FX24D makes after listening to the videos I posted of GWSmiths? :welcome:

Thanks. This has been a very helpful forum (especially Winston1).

The tractor I purchased had been stored outside for six years and not been used in one year (at least by the owner I bought it from). But, the hour meter works, and only has 148 hours on it (rebuild?). So, my first order of business is to change out all of the fluids and questionable hoses and seals. I drained the fuel which was red (stabilizer?), and refilled it with fresh diesel and a dash of Seafoam. Then I changed the oil which was black and sludge filled (after running some seafoam through it as well).

The result is that the tractor sounds better than when I bought it. It still has a high frequency knock at low rpm, but I have a few more things to do before I post a video of the engine running to get some input on the sound. At higher rpm, it just hums.

I should have said high pitch, not high frequency.

That's ag, offroad, diesel. Same as truck diesel except the red dye is added to flag it as no road tax included in the (lower) price.

You may simply be hearing diesel fuel knock. Here are a couple of recordings of 2-cylinder Yanmars where that knock is very apparent:
Yanmar 240 Photos. Scroll clear down to the bottom of that page. The sound files will take a moment to download.
If that is what you hear, don't worry about it. Power Service diesel additive will increase the Cetane rating (like gasoline octane) and quiet some of that knock as well as improve easy starting. But it isn't necessary.

You maybe ok, My 3110 3 cylinder will knock at real low RPM
