Craigslist Find: 60" Iseki Tiller

I have owned the same tiller. They work well but the difference between these tillers and King Kutter, etc. U.S. made tillers are the Iseki, Mitsubishi, Yanmar, etc. are rice tillers....the main difference being the tines and how they attach. The "L" shaped tines usually have two attachment bolts where the rice tines fit in a socket w/ one bolt. The rice tines are easier to break so be careful when tilling unbroken or rocky ground. If something is super hard/compacted, I will usually run my boxblade scarifiers through it first to break it up a little then use the tiller. I have replaced Iseki/Mitsubishi tines with "Yanmar" tines. They are available from Hoye Tractor. I have used mine a lot and it does a good job....two slow passes will usually leave a lettuce bed quality result.

Good info, thanks! What's reasonable (cost) to replace the tines?

The tines can be hard to find and Hoye's prices are as reasonable as any I've seen. Yanmar Tractor Parts: Tiller Tines . I would order individual left or right tines to replace your missing ones.....if there is a minor difference in your "Iseki tines" and new "Yanmar tines" you'll never notice it in the tillers performance/quality of bed it leaves.

I was very fortunate. I bought an implement off Ebay and when I picked it up I noticed the guy (a grey market tractor dealer) had a pile of tines he had taken off a couple of Yanmar tillers. When I asked if they were for sale he insisted I take them....he was throwing them away. I ended up with enough tines to replace my full set almost 2 times. So, if I break or lose a tine ( which WILL eventually happen), I just get one out of my "Yanmar tine stash" and bolt it in.

You got a good price for sure. All Craigslist tillers listed in my area want nearly new prices for them, nothing less than $1000 for 48" and price goes up from there. Photos show tines very worn in most of them also (knife edge on the front). One fairly new looking one wanted $1500 for a 48", I think I might find new for that price.
Everyone seems to find great buys on Craigslist but me. (whine, whine whine)

LOL, I love CL ! Actually, I've been looking for a disc or tiller at a good price all summer, finally found that tiller and jumped on it immediately. I find with Craigslist, that if I stay patient and diligent, good things will come to me. Gary, I don't know if you use the phone app for Craigslist, but I like using that better than the actual computer. You can save items in your watch list and its so much easier to search for and keep track of things.

Hehe...yeah, I got a good deal but the tines weren't the best part of it. When the dealer gave me the tines, I was there picking up a Deere front blade like this 380 blade john deere tractor implement. that I won off him on Ebay for $155. Ended up selling one of the rear mounting brackets to a guy for $150 and then sold the remaining blade and brackets for $500....... and of coarse had the free tines too!

No smart phone for me, just a plain old one to talk on. I don't even text. I am almost always home and don't even turn on my talkie phone unless I am going out and then only to talk to the wife if need be. Wife has her phone surgically implanted and it and portable house phone is always within reach. No one calls me, so I don't even answer the phone if it rings. When I am home, 90% of the time I am out in the field working on something and phone is in the house (turned off). I bought some walkie talkies years ago, and son gave me two for Christmas and I don't use them either. Got them batteried up and tested for range but never remember to take them with me.

Surgically implanted:laughing:

But Gary, if you're out in the field and something happens to where you need to contact someone, how will your TBN brethren reach you?:D
