Any experience out there with WoodMaxx chippers? I'm considering the WC-8N. I don't need a killer chipper, so this one should do nicely. I've been looking at various models and wanted something with self-feed, which this one has. I also like that it has a pretty hefty flywheel compared to the others I've looked at.

I have a Woodmaxx with hydraullic feed. I did some research here on TBN and saw all of the warnings about Chinese chippers -- although I couln't find any first-hand accounts of any problems with this brand. I purchased it, with some hesitation, and am perfectly happy with it. I use it regularly an belive it is a great value. I would have paid moe-than-double for a 6-in wally with hydraullic feed.

Are the WoodMaxx Chinese made? I know they look similar to the Jinma, but WoodMaxx leads you to believe they build their own stuff. I do hear though that the Jinma isn't a bad chipper and my local dealer has one that came with a trade-in. I think it's a 6" and if I recall he wanted something like $1500 for it. But, he doesn't carry the brand and doesn't have parts for Jinma, nor does anyone else around here as far as I know.

I've got a thread on the 8" Jinma http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/277284-jinma-8-chipper-first-hours.html
There are two suppliers of parts stateside. On mine there is a poorly matched bolt hole for the chute. I worked if for maybe 30 hours. Talking w/ Ranch Hand Supply and CircleG the only difference between the 6" and the 8" is the size of the "feed hole".

If you are using it in a business and can write off the expense the big W is a much better chipper, but if your like me and just need a chipper for maybe 40 hours a year t5he Jinma does fine.

The WC looks exactly like the Jinma and I bet they are the same chipper with the exception of the hole. That leads me to wonder how WoodMaxx claims their stuff is USA made.

Woodmaxx says the knives are made in the USA. Nowhere do they claim the chippers are made here. Final assembly is done near Buffalo, New York.

True, but they lead one to believe this based on what they say about some of the other models they sell and the story they give about how the company was founded. They certainly aren't lying about anything, but being closely associated with sales and marketing types and watching how they seldom tell the entire truth, these are the kinds of things that make me crazy. Regardless, if it's a quality chipper I don't have a problem owning it.

Regardless where there made there good chippers. I've had one for about 2 years and have used it quite a bit without any problems. I wish I had gotten the hydraulic feed though.

I have a WoodMaxx mechanical feed 8 inch model. No issues so far. I was impressed with the overall quality of the parts when I was putting it together. And the WoodMaxx customer service folks were absolutely great in dealing with a minor issue that I had with one part. (Hidden shipping damage - Woodmaxx sent me a replacement part no questions asked!)

No questions asked seems to be a re-occurring theme with Woodmaxx! One of the reasons I bought one!

I received my Woodmax WM-8H chipper yesterday and got it put together this morning. It took about 3 hours to check that all the bolts were tight and get it assembled. It is quick hitch compatible, with some minor modifications. I had to raise the center (upper) hook on my quick hitch to properly engage it to the chipper, only to find out that the included PTO shaft would not be long enough. I ended up taking my QH off so the chipper was closer. Once I did that, the PTO shaft didn't need any modifications at all. I only had a couple of minor issues during assembly and nothing requiring me to call the company for help.
I only had about 30 minutes to use it this afternoon. Overall I'm impressed. I'm glad I bought the hydraulic model. It made quick work of the pine branches I had lying around. A couple were 5-6 inches in diameter and it converted them to chips in short order. I can now clearly see why some have recommended getting an 8" chipper. It makes feeding branches in so much easier and the hydraulic feed just pulls them in. Watch out for the assist bar though, I fed a large branch in and the bar clunked me on the head when the upper feed wheel moved up to accommodate the larger diameter branch. Only need to do that once!:p

I cut (shortened) my drive shaft to the correct length, according to the Woodmaxx instructions. Later, added a quick hitch which necessitated a longer shaft. My solution was purchasing a PTO extender.

Amanda at Woodmaxx inquired about my quick hitch issue and suggested that I might need the i-match top link to fit my QH. She is sending it to me at no cost to give it a try. It will require me to purchase a longer PTO shaft if it does, but will make hooking it up a breeze. Again, another example of great service from Woodmaxx.

Took a video clip of my chipper yesterday. Here is the link

Woodmaxx Chipper Clip

Hope this works -- just uploaded it to YouTube.

I've had my chipper for a year now and seems to run well --
Two minor problems - The handle that rotates the chute seems to be failing and I lost a screw-in grease zerk on the drive shaft. Otherwise good.

Thanks for revisiting the thread and posting this for future searches. Also, thanks for putting material > 1" through the chipper. Most every video out there has people feeding tiny crap into the chute, leading me to believe that those particular choppers will not handle much. The Wallenstein videos on YouTube are actually decent, another reason for my consideration.

I'm in the market for a chipper, and torn between the mechanical feed Woodmaxx and the Wallenstein BX42. I love the idea of direct drive, but not the idea of explaining the extra $$$ to the wife.
