Also, why didn't they do all the tests with the boat to make somewhat a comparison?
From the site:
The lower max. towing rating of this Silverado meant that we could not use the Diamond in the Rough - the 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee edition on a double axle flat bed trailer.

I read that the Silverado tows 11,500 with the 5.3 and the double cab, the 3:73 axle, and the max trailer package. Of course the ford guys would want to test their egoboost against one with a 3:09 axle. They must be afraid of a real head to head. Do the ford guys remove the restrictor shield in front of the intercooler, you know, the one that was going to solve the water ingestion problem?

I am what you call an "egoboost" owner, what ever that means. I said I was disappointed in the chevy not having a fair shot. I don't have and restrictor shield or water ingestion problems. That said, I still believe the chevy would still have come in last with the lower HP and Torque values. I would even venture to say the egoboost would probably beat the 6.2 liter engines (ford and chevy) in this particular test but that may be my ego talking. The chevy 5.3 liter equipped to tow 11,500 lbs would probably not make it over 40 mph on that trek towing 11,500 lbs.

GM sent the truck, not Ford. They also stated early on they are testing the trucks the masses buy and the 3.08 gear ratio is all GM offers in the most common configuration.

Nothing new here. GM has used these pathetic gear ratios for years so they can advertise MPG numbers that beat the competition by 1 or 2 MPG while building trucks with no grunt.

Its all about advertising to the masses that know nothing about trucks and buy on HP and MPG.

I believe they did this because they no currently they have a last place finisher no matter what gear. That 5.3 in current form does not hold a candle to the others offerings in the power dept albeit a reliable engine.

Like mentioned above the GM could not win no matter what gear ratio was in it or avaliable motor. They just dont make the torque.

I think the goal was to take an off the lot pickup, load it near capacity, then see if it could hold the 60MPH on the climb as well as see how much fuel was used on the trip. That in mind, turbos are always going to provide the most efficient route to the best performance at high altitude. For that reason the tests were silly and were over before they started no matter what gearing any of them had, 100% due to the induction systems used on the motors.

Here is my comments on the bottom of their page along with their response. Looks like we might get more testing in the future.

My neighbor has a 2012 ecoboost that came from the factory with the CAC deflector shield. The shield is there to limit the air to the CAC so there is less condensation inside for the engine to digest. Being that water doesn't compress, that could be fatal for a engine. Look at the pics of this ecoboost.http://www.f150forum.com/f70/blown-ecoboost-wtf-pics-inside-170270/
