was out mowing the pasture.. found these things that look about like basketball or smaller sized melons. skin vaugely resembles a watermellon.. though not as dark green.. but same striping.

i hit a couple with the mower and the flesh has a rind then is whitish or maybee whiteish yellow, with white seeds. again. has the same flesh profile as a watermellon.. etc.. I have no clue what they are... leaf on the vine looks like a squash leaf kinda.

I have grown pumpkin and watermellon 25ys ago.. but not anything recently.. these are on vines that look similar.

any ideas?

Those are probably Alien Eggs. I suspect the NSA will be out to gather intel shortly.

Be careful. Some gourds that might look like winter squash but cook up so bitter that you want to pull your tongue out and cut it off at the root.

I'd review what you have planted in the past. I'm learning that birds and squirrels are very effective seed planters (and they fertilize at the same time). My shop building abuts a woods and I never went back there until this year. I have the biggest berry patch I have ever seen with no effort required on my part. We live in the woods so black raspberry and blackberry (and just now some unidentified conical shaped berry is getting ripe) I can understand. But there is also a pile of domestic red raspberries even though I know of nobody raising them in the area.

I used to have some here in a patch beside my yard that only got mowed a couple times a year. They were on a vine just laying on ground and maybe twice as large as a big pear. Since that's now part of my yard and gets mowed regularly I don't see em any more.

deffinately not a pumpkin.. what's a citron mellon like?

the horses kicked one free yesterday and I took a machetti to it. smelled faintly like a watermellon.. but again.. pale flesh.

skin not like a honeydo.. and did not look like a honeydo.. etc..

Do animals poop in that corner of the pasture? I'd bet that a raccoon, fox, or coyote made a "deposit" there with seeds they ate at another location. If the pasture wasn't mowed in that spot for 90 to 100 days, that's perfect time for growth of melons.

Gourds and pumpkins or squash/vine crops often cross-pollinate and you wind up with alien-looking things. We had "gourdkins" that were half and half and have had squash cross with cukes. The list was endless and in our 8 acres probably had 25 ugly ducklings a year.

My guess is someone's garden from last year was mix and match of whatever and the seeds crossed. They got discarded in your area, or a bird or cow left the seed and there you go.

Do you have crop circles in any of your fields?;):confused3:

There are all kinds of melons it seems now from regular "red" water melons to "yellow", "White" and orange looking flesh ones. I like the Yellow Ones have not tried the other ones yet. Kind of harder to find too so not sure if they are some genetically mixed up or modified or result of Crop Circles heheh :D ???

The cats planted this gourd for us. Right by the front porch.
