66F, .10 rain since midnight. light morning drizzle appears on last legs
Just too tempting yesterday and tractor mowed a couple hours before heading to town. So glad we did.
Ordered material for my chainlink fence project - over 300ft plus four gates. Interesting exercise.
Last week, I took my detailed drawing and parts break down list to several suppliers for a bid. Universally, they all loved what I brought in and except for slight name changes and one supplier having 21 ft vs 10.5 top rail, their quotes matched up - no glaring errors or omissions.
So the results:
Two places, didn't do chainlink even though they did other fencing and some of the hardware.
The first to respond was a major fence company, the quote was astounding: over $5500 for 9 ga. No mention of delivery or concrete.
The second was a local farm supply that does a lot of fencing, less than $2500 for 9ga, but no delivery and they only had 21ft top rail. Cement, but no concrete mix.
HomeDepot's first response was irritating in that it was for 11.5 ga, basically what was in stock and not what I asked for. Monday, HD sent a second quote, this time for 9ga. When adjusted for my military discount it was still about $50 over the other local store, but delivery was possible.
I was about ready to go with #2 local place
Then the Pro rep from HD called to see if I got the 2nd quote. Told him I wish that had been his first quote, as I wasn't interested in the 11.5 ga, in stock material. He apologized saying he had been waiting for the info. Anyway, I told him that even with my military discount HD was still higher that the other. He said their policy was to beat the other by 10% and if I gave him the info he would look at it. I did, he did and I got a new quote for less than $2200.
So, price advantage to HD, plus for another $79, I get everything delivered including 50 bags of Quikcrete. May have to wait 6 weeks for the fence fabric, but that's OK. So in end, I saved a bit of money, but even mo betta, saved two trips to pick up material. The forks will be on my tractor to help with the delivery.
Have a great day.
