Until my buddy's wife junked it along with some of his stuff after he died, I had this Wehr grader attachment. They were built to go on Fordson tractors but this one was on a non running Stewart truck. We towed it with a tractor to grade a motorcycle track we had. You can really grade good with them because you can feel the hand wheels tightening or loosening with highs and lows in the grade. You don't get that feel of the road with hydraulics.

You talk just like an excavator operator who stepped up from pilot hydraulics to electric operated valves.. You just dont get that feel with electrics as you got with servo :)

Here's as simple as it gets.
100yr old Grader

Neat looking old iron.
Around here we use more recent designs like this landplane my neighbor uses to level his prune plum orchard prior to planting.

How often does your neighbour replant orchards, on the area he parks this landplane he could also grow quite some prunes.. ??

I know the feeling. We had a Koering triple six with the electrics. All the operators said it was jerky and quick.

He used that landplane 5-6 years ago on that 10 acre field and two others the same size to level and slope the ground for alfalfa that is watered via surface flood irrigation. This year he releveled 20 acres of the alfalfa and planted a prune plum orchard irrigated via ditches. More money in Sunsweet prunes (now known as "dried plums") than in alfalfa. He parks that giant landplane on a slice of the remaining 10 acre alfalfa field.
