Thinking about adding Cab lights to the top of my truck cab,
Back in the 80's I was big on adding lights everywhere on my trucks, I think it was due to having trucker buddy's and them always giving me their old lights after scoring new ones for their Rigs, yes I used to run Mud flaps  and aluminum running boards, Though that style is not too appealing to us these days, I do still see many of the heavy/super Duty truck having cab clearance lights,

so I'm wondering if FMC installed factory wiring for provision of these lights behind the headliner? and simply do not install them unless was request as an option, or perhaps there's a factory plug somewhere that allows to work when the light switch is turned on?

Several years ago the overhead console ( LED ) of my SD-f250 stopped working, so I took it down to check out the problem, I noticed other wiring up in behind it but wasn't sure what they went to, I couldn't be so lucky,
OBTW- it was a wire needing glued back onto the circuit board to make the LED work again,

What year truck, on my 07 the harness starts at the pass side kick panel then runs up the pass side a pillar and depending on the other options there might already be 5 plugs already spaced out for the lights Its gonna mean drilling 5 each 1 inch holes and 10smaller holes in the roof. do a google search for "motomans cab lights " F250 Factory Clearance Light install

Thanks for the LINK there Firemanpat2910:thumbsup: exactly what I needed to know, my truck is a '99 looks very much like the one on Motomans site but in a 2wd, as far as options my truck is the Lariat which might not have the harness, It seems like the trucks I see with clearance lights are the basic work truck series,
incidentally I have installed aftermarket ones on a couple of my other trucks but did have to do a complete wiring hookup,

I have had 2 Lariet F350's which both had factory clearance lights. One was a 1999 like yours and the other a 2006.

I've got them on my truck, but I bought it used so I got what I got.... Never understood the purpose. Extra visibility I guess. They certainly don't help me judge "clearance" overhead...

I put a set on my 2012 F350 srw. I went with atomic lights as I needed stobes also. I have been very pleased with them. Atomic LED Videos
It only took a few hours to do. Hardest part was drilling the first hole
Reason for the clearance lights is when you are 102 wide they are required by DOT. And all my trailers are 102 wide thus need to add them. But on the flip side I have never seen anyone get a ticket for not having them.

I put cab lights on my 2006 superduty. I had to run the wiring for them, I taped in to the parking light wire under the hood. the whole job took a little over 2hrs. the hard part was convinceing my self to drill in to the cab of a brand new $50,000 truck. And I also have the lights on the running bords, must be the trucker in me.

Required by DOT - OK... but is any 3/4 or 1 ton over 102" wide? Dunno myself - never measured or looked it up...

It's actually if its over 80" thus reason all dual rear wheel trucks, box trucks and OTR have clearance lights. Also reason the ford raptor has lighted in the grill.
Anything wider than 102" needs signs, strobes and permits

I never thought of the technical or legal reason for having Clearance lights, I just like the way they look, I guess the lights gives off more of a "Big Truck" look, over the past almost 40 years of driving/commuting I've seen all kind of truck lighting, lights in places some folks wouldn't imagine to be, some even have light up tire valve stem caps, But the Most one common place of all has always been the Cab lights, Here is one of my old dodges with the cab lights I installed, It just seems to add that Big truck look to it,
