Speaking about being a geezer, floaters, who else deals with them?

Been checked by retina specialist/ophthalmologist for another condition. Mine are considered " normal"

Floaters typically are normal and not noticed by most people. You really do not see them but the shadow they make on the retina.

Now a retina flap is a very serious condition because the brain tissue (retina) is detached and needs to be welded back (not a medical term ) by scarring it with a laser in spots. Today there may be other ways too.

As noted any eye concern should be checked out and let the professionals make the verdict.

My eye doctor(s), brothers actually, are both surgeons. I go back in a month for a followup. Have to ask about the floater surgery though I would not subject myself unless it was absolutely required.

I'm 66....and have had floaters for about 7 or 8 years. Seems a bit more of 'em with time....but you grow to get used to them. Could effect your duck hunting tho......and add a few extra targets. ;)

Speaking of being a geezer......alas.....seems more young people call me "sir" than they used to. :(

Early 50's here, have had them bad for about 7 years. Opthomologist says they are nothing to worry about but they can be a PITA. I have a couple of large ones that I recognize, one looks like an amoeba and the other a horseshoe. Worse in bright sunlight (must wear sunglasses), if I look at the sky it's like looking at pond water through a microscope. Bright florescent lights are also very bad.

Discussed the surgical options with the Optho doc, I'll stick with the floaters for now.

Ayup, exactly where I am right now. If/when it moves from annoyance to impairment I'll rethink the options.

I clicked on this thread thinking you were talking about floaters in the toilet:confused3:.

Amoeba pretty well discribes the new one. All the others I can only discribe as a submicron shot of sperm cells swimming towards there target. This one is like a pendulum as I said in the beginning. It always floats to the center inverse to the direction I move my eye. Doc said I would get used to it. I kind of am but it still bugs me once in awhile. I suppose I should be thankful it was not what I thought it was, a detached retina.

I've had them since I was a little kid. I used to sit there and try to look at them, but they keep moving. Doctor says mine are normal. They haven't increased or decreased and I'm over 50. But everyone should have their eyes checked regularly...
